Nope. Just dress warm. No heat and no ac.It was at or below 0 degrees here when they started their routes this morning. Combine that and the fact that it's nothing but hills around me and the range will be cut really short.

Let's all use our stimulus checks and invest in them .So what Coal/Gas plant will supply the charge for these batteries? Lol
The maintenance is significantly less. The drivetrain has a tiny fraction of the moving parts (Tesla says 10% the number). Much of the pricey stuff on an ICE car, like emissions and transmission don't even exist. Brake life is far greater due to regen. These are completely beltless cars as well. There is still plenty of “idle” time that is not reflected on the odometer. Yes even electric cars will have to run lights and heat and other systems all day for 10 hours or more. Some vehicles like shared police cars and things like that might run for 24+ hours. So they will take an absolute beating and nobody knows how well these cars will hold up under that. Hell your car might not even be charged up when you need to use it again the next morning. And don’t be fooled. There is still tons of maintenance on an electric car. Still pretty much all the same moving parts and systems.
An EV would be plugged in charging at night it would turn the heat on at a scheduled time and the vehicle would be warm.It was at or below 0 degrees here when they started their routes this morning. I'm actually impressed that the post office's tracking system is so bad. More than once I've had an estimated delivery time in the past for a package not yet delivered. The post office should really concentrate on getting mail delivered on time. Last month I sent my car payment on the 15th it arrived 3 days ago over a month to get from Westchester to Pittsburgh . I got hit with late fees for it, first time with 2 cars I had a late payment.
Your numbers seem incredibly low as far as annual mileage. I’ve been police cars that aren’t that old with 100k miles on them. I have a buddy who gets a phone call if he parks for more than about 15 minutes from his boss wanting to know why he’s not out patrolling.I looked into number and at this point I think vehicle cost would be the issue. I'm not worried about emissions rather cost of operation and maintenance.
Typical maintenance and fuel on a police vehicle is 13-15k a year the cost of a gas car is 25-30k so the ev would have to be cheaper than that.
Police cars on average put 20k miles a year thats roughly 60 miles a day on an ev with a 200-300 mile range . Modern evs with heat pumps use 20 percent of the battery per charge for climate control. Most the time police cars sit there doing nothing but idling. Cars are replaced around 100k . Ev may last longer before replacement.
This is depending on where im sure a city is different from a town or highways cars . Out west im sure they drive more than around here.
For what it's worth I just turned my car on to check. 23F outside, with lights on and heater on (more than it would be if car was already warm) it's using 3 kWh. It has a pack size of 40 so could run that for half a day. Some of the teslas have a pack almost twice as big so you'd be good idling with the heat on for 24 hours. The hummer EV (not really relevant here) has a 200 kWh battery.Do you have any idea how much power those cars draw? They usually have dual HD alternators and batteries. Some even have 3 batteries. The light packages alone draw crazy power. Some even need high idle switches to make sure they are generating enough power when parked. I just don’t think batteries are there yet to handle this.
Ok now add emergency lights on the roof, front, back, sides, headlight and taillight flashers, computer, printer, a few radios and a scanner maybe a spotlight or 2, a few 100W siren speakers, a flashlight or 2 charging etc. and let me know what the draw is then. For what it's worth I just turned my car on to check. 23F outside, with lights on and heater on (more than it would be if car was already warm) it's using 3 kWh. Lights don't draw a ton of energy. Regular lights vs high beam I can see it tick up, but heat is the primary draw. Or AC in the summer, though it pulls less than a heater.
Won’t ever miss a UPS truck! 6 liter LS motors the lot of them, and many have dual exhaust side dumps ahead of the rear wheels. Now fed ex those fuckers sneak up on you those trucks are quiet

I've said it before and it remains true: Most people who don't like EVs have never driven one.Love them or hate them EV are tge future, modern gas driveline are expensive and unreliable. These engines are getting to complex and electric motors are simple

I've never driven one and would buy one in a heartbeat when the prices come down . Maybe my next car once my current one is payed off.I've said it before and it remains true: Most people who don't like EVs have never driven one.
We all know the disadvantages as they've been harped on extensively. Some are real, some aren't. Here are some advantages:
Battery pack is life of the car in most cases. The only substantial disadvantage of them is range. It gets better each year. They are not ideal road trip cars.
- They humiliate gas-based cars when it comes to throttle response. There is no down shifting or gear hunting or turbo spooling. They also have shit loads of power on tap.
- They are far more simple, requiring minimal maintenance and less repairs
- They are fuel efficient: a 400 horsepower EV can cost less in fuel per mile than a rinky dink subcompact
- Almost instant heat. My car goes, from when I hit the power button, to starting to create heat through the vents in 60 seconds (I timed it)
Hate them. I’ll do everything I can to avoid one. I think they are the epitome of what is wrong with this country. EV cars are the liberals flags to me and I just can’t handle it.Love them or hate them EV are tge future, modern gas driveline are expensive and unreliable. As far as I know they are small city police. I have no clue though truly. I have not researched it extensively.Well, I have no idea what the draw is.
There are already EV cop cars btw.
And just because a police dept has an electric car doesn't mean its for serious police use. Could be a novelty type thing. Some dept have classic cars and convertibles, doesn't mean they are actually out on patrol every day.As far as I know they are small city police. I have no clue though truly. I have not researched it extensively.
Gee.. I wonder who might have recently purchased stock in Lordstown.
Shocking business as usual in the swamp

I haven’t either regarding cops carsAs far as I know they are small city police. I have no clue though truly. I have not researched it extensively.
