As far as i`m concerned,

The fact is NATO was not involved in any of those places, and they are well outside of it's charter, so its unlikely to ever be involved in them.
Some of the member nations (like US and UK) involved themselves, but saying NATO is involved is like saying the NRA is smuggling guns because a couple members got caught with a couple modified oil filters.

Russia doesn't get to set "red lines" for other sovereign nations.
Russian troops in Ukraine is a red line for NATO, does that mean they should mobilize and fully deploy half a million troops to stop them ?
That would be a very short deployment.

No, it was because the Soviet Union dissolved and everyone went their separate ways. Nobody needed to agree with anything. Ukraine was always a separate country under the Soviet umbrella.
Not letting them go would be like Germany trying to claim France if the EU dissolved.
The agreement that was made was for Russia to respect their sovereignty if they gave up the Soviet nuclear weapons that were stationed on Ukrainian soil. Pretty sure the Ukrainians are really regretting trusting the Russians for that one.
Soviet Union (USSR) was dissolved and transformed into a Comomwealth of Independent States (CIS). Ukraine and Russia were a part of this Comonwealth.
They did not go their separate ways.

Russia has no authority to make demands on Ukraine. They are finding out they don't have the power either.
Ukraine will be a NATO member within 5 years.
What will become of Russia for their tantrum remains to be seen. Will they follow Putin to oblivion, or will he take a long walk out a high window and they may survive.
They were bound by the rule of the committee of CIS leaders.
