Big victory with my wife

She just told me a few weeks ago she really Thinks she should go shooting with me since she's home a lone a lot. She thinks it would be good to be proficient with a gun. With the heroin epidemic there are a lot of break ins and we have ran into some sketchy people lately. Now this morning she told me she thinks she would get her pistol permit with her sister. You know not to actually carry a gun, but just so she knows how to use mine. Whatever we're moving in the right direction and a few more sketchy run ins who knows. She's small and pretty and she gets approached by men now and again. That makes her uncomfortable. She also works from home and I think it would be good for her to be protected.

That's great news. Start slow with a .22 and let her get comfortable with the whole shooting/range experience. If you start her with something with too much recoil she might shy away. Let her decide what to buy once she gets her feet wet. Then get her in some self defense training.

I have the SR22 and can't say enough good things. Great pistol for anyone to start with - accurate and easy to manipulate.

You'll probably be happier with the SR22. I had both. Didn't like the feel of the M&P 22 (although I really love my other M&P's). It felt like a lightweight toy, so I sold it. The SR22 has a much nicer balanced feel to it. Of course, YMMV...

This is so true. Every pistol I've bought for her has been way more expensive than any of mine (exception is G42).

She did. After she gets hooked she'll be sticking her fingers in his wallet for ammo or a new gun every chance she gets. But it's for a good cause and I think Saltwater60 won't mind.

Congrats. I've been lucky for the last 35 years. My wife loves to shoot. She grew up in a hunting family so taking her shooting when we were dating was a no brainer for me. Hell, on acation she has even out shot me.

Yup.

We bought the Glock 42 for her. But...then my wife found the "1911-like Sig P238" in purple. So, she bought that for herself for way more than the Glock 42 and the Glock found its way into my safe. Then she found that the P938 was the 9mm version of the P238...so she got that one in purple, too. Oh well, at least I got to keep the Glock 43. Then....she found that Browning made the 1911-380 Black Label (a real 1911 in 380 at 3/4 the size of a 45). So, she bought that. Later, she found the compact version of the browning...and bought that. Now she's gotta stop buying pistols because I don't want to clean any more.

I'll just be happy if she follows through. I'd be happy if she shoots once or twice per year with me. I will order the ruger tomorrow if my car repair is not horribly expensive. It's just a seized caliper and I normally do that shot myself, but I just don't have time. I'm remolding my whole downstairs, refinishing 2 pieces of furniture, and refinishing 2 doors right now. Also it's rainy and I don't have garage space at the moment.

My wife's personal favorite pistol is her metallic purple Sig P238 (which is also a Colt Mustang clone).

Kimber bel air. Nice gun. I thought about one for myself. Well we're making progress I just bought a .22 pistol for her to get used to. It gets delivered today then she said I think an old gun above the fire place would look nice. I said wow and bid on one last night. Auction ends today. I'm surprised and impressed. I will say she has been coming around with all the BS that's been happening around me. Lots of burglaries, car break ins, and the heroin is bad. Lots of scumbags around lately.

Congrats! But the guys who complain about their wives, may be, your situation is not so bad... I have noticed that when women get used to some "men's" habits, they become even more enthusiastic about this activity, than their spouses. It concerns everything: automobiles, fitness, drinking alcohol... So let them make their own choice. The most of women can't handle guns well, it's their nature. As for me - I prefer to let my wife just be a woman and perform her tasks. I'm always there to protect her.

My wife grew up with long guns. She had been out shooting a few times with me and although it took 2 years on convincing she finally got her permit. She picked out a Ruger SR 22 as it fit her hand best. She doesn't shoot much but is a very good shot. She will never carry and her work also prohibits it. The real reason for her to get her permit was if something happens to me my guns are on hers. I also have them on my best friends permit as well.

So teach her well!

My wife has her carry permit and does so everyday. She loves her LCR and also has picked out some outstanding guns for me. I am a lucky guy.
