I won’t and that’s why I’ll end up being a minimum wage worker at some point. That’s $44,200 to be a full time minimum wage worker in NYS compared to $15,080 federally. That’s nuts and a huge burden on NYS residents and businesses.

The transition is already underway - most fast food restaurants allow you to order via an app, and/or have kiosks for you to place your own order. Machines can easily cook, assemble, and wrap a burger. We're not far from one person running an entire business.

Well hell..people will have to "WORK" to get that wage or..stay at home and get about the same sucking off the Government free money and bennies. There won’t be jobs for kids around if that’s the pay rate. Everything will cost so damn much it will cripple our economy. Say good bye to many small businesses and many corporations that mostly pay minimum wage because if they can pay workers $14 less per hour then they will. Federal minimum wage is $7.25 and that’s a huge difference. This will help no one except the few kids that find jobs since most jobs will be done another way if this happens. Go in and talk to your local store all they do is cut labor when this happens and service suffers. Just think of the cost of your local grocery store will have to pay each worker $6.25 more per hour, that’s a huge cost increase.

This is more or less a 25% raise for minimum wage workers, but hardly anyone who already makes more than that per hour will see any increase in their pay. The net result is that everyone's dollar has to be stretched further. In other words, an increase in minimum wage results in an effective decrease in the wages of everyone else.

For example, in 2013, NYS minimum wage was $8. If this goes through, that would equate to a 165% increase in pay since 2013. During that same time period, my salary has increased approximately 50%.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating for government-mandated raises to go along with minimum wage hikes. I'm just pointing out one of the harms this "min wage spiraling out of control" movement causes.

My salary has increased about 10% over that timeframe so I feel your pain. Part of that is my fault since I took another job and a pay cut but it will end up better in the long run… I hope.

Don’t forget many government workers get paid less than this so it will cause a tax increase as well.

Raising minimum wage does not raise everyone though, and it contributes to inflation. If you are currently making $21.25, and the min is increased to that, you've now become a minimum wage worker. Your buying power has been decreased due to the cost of goods and services rising and your pay staying the same.

The whole minimum wage non-sense is a vote grab. Minimum wage is not living wage. Its meant for younger people, part timers, and those with no skills. If you're trying to raise a family on a min wage salary, you've failed. Either get a second job, or acquire better skills for better pay.

Let's make the minimum wage $100, we'll all be rich, right? But wait, when a gallon of milk is now $59.95, we'll be back to "things are so expensive today we need a pay raise..."

I might need to step up my PLC skillset. It might be a nice gig to automate to replace the mouthbreathers. The dream of AI can only go so far in programming. When a machine sensor tells it to pickup but the machine misses the moving widget by miliseconds of perfection nothing is going to fix it except for someone sitting right there.

Next Gen of automation has the robot doing the job just like a human would.

Camera and AI based image recognition identifies the object and picks it up regardless of orientation on the conveyor belt.

Can even have a belt full of mixed product and the robot can sort out what belongs to it, and what to leave for the next robot to pick.

Oh, and all those white collar workers are now in danger of being automated away too.

AI can do a better job picking stocks than most stock analysts. A better job doing accounting than an accountant, etc...

Is there a reason bank tellers still exist other than its steeped in antiquity? There are ATMs that not only dispense money but take cash deposits and checks.

I've never had an issue with any cash or checks I deposited at an ATM, but I've always been a bit leery about it. If I'm depositing more than a couple hundred in cash, I'll go to a teller.

They do other things, too. I needed dollar coins (because I'm the tooth fairy!), rolls of those don't pop out of ATMs. Certified/bank checks are another. But let's be realistic, that's one person, and a lot of what I've pointed out here (everything?) could certainly be automated.
