They should pass it in the middle of the night. I hope this makes it and then after they see how stupid and useless the safe act is, it is then ultimately repealed state wide. We can't forget our brothers and sisters in the counties this keeps the safe act in.

Title for the thread is a bit mis-leading. This isn't going to limit the Safe Act to just these few counties. It says nothing of the sort.

"By reason of mental disease or defect". Temporary Order of Protection. Why is this worse in the affected counties? It seems to me that the unSAFE Act called for this thru out the State. Even if not you but someone that resides with you has the problem your firearms can/will be confiscated. Is the bill making a distinction between upstate & downstate illnesses? I never agreed with the unSAFE Act and I don't agree with this discriminate bill. Like togmaster said "All or nothing".

I don't quite follow.
I'm not fan of the unSAFE act, but afaik it only establishes that you must secure you firearms in your home when you live with someone who has been mentally adjudicated or has committed a felony in the past and cannot own firearms. It does not give the state to right to take your firearms if they're secure and you live with someone who qualifies in those categories.
Thanks for the correction. This is from The NYSP guide. "Safe Storage of Rifles, Shotguns and Firearms, requiring a person who lives with another and knows the other is disqualified from possessing a firearm under certain federal provisions, to maintain the weapon securely".

While everyone in my house qualifies as able to get a license, not everyone in my home is actually licensed to use all of my firearms. So, for me, it makes sense to lock them up when not on my person. It gives me peace of mind.
However, since long arms do not require a permit, I would consider leaving a shotgun available for home defense for individuals who are not licensed for a pistol -- although, I have to check on the legality of other household members being given permission to use long arms I own before I do that in confidence.
I say we have them change the proposed bill to read that the SAFE act only applies to NY Government Agencies and their issued equipment.

that would be a terrible idea... not just because i live in wastechester, but because we all live in the same state and we should all have the same rights. we cant allow a law of this kind for any part of the state. accepting this for the convenience of living upstate does nothing to help the cause.

Nyc is a crazy situation because it is a part of ny, but is night and day from upstate. Its not right tgat nyc politics control upstate lives, and something needs to be done about that, but nyc residents should have the same RIGHTS as anyone else in the country.

You're right, it isn't right that nyc controls the rest of the state.. nyc rights are nyc residents problem as far as I'm concerned though. You wouldn't see me complaining if this passed.

I like that old saying but i dont think it will work in this case. I think "divide and conquer" is more fitting. The elected officials want to fragment us as much as possible because its easier to control us. If we are united we have a better chance of getting our rights restored, imo.
