metal match ( magnesium ) .. small bottle or 2 of flammable hand sanitizer .. I'm still iffy on spending for a filtration unit .. I've drank lots of local lake waters while water skiing , or drank from the Canaceraga creek / Genessee river while swimming , no issues .. if in doubt just boil it .. you did get your fire going with the metal match ... compass on phone .. but I'm local and know the landscape pretty well .. if out of state bug out then yea old school compass n topo maps..

A box of tampons ( good for nose bleeds) .. and maxi pads .. good first aid stuff .. peel the strip , stick it to the persons hand .. hold here ..

changes of clothing only needed in NY during the winter Burrr .. run naked .. scare the crap out of others keep your travel area safe LOL

Super glue .. good for closing cuts in case you ran out of band aids ..

you 50 miles from home and have to walk .. wooded area .. know your tree bark for starting fire what works or not when damp ..

a simple little candle or 2 .. winter time lots of snow .. dig a snow fort .. that candle will warm that area up .. if you old like me you know it ... fun times just playing but it worked , nice and warm ..

Cordage. Many different styles and sizes. Thick, thin and other thicknesses. Have the cordage in different pockets or tied to the outside.

Duct tape. It is a lifesaver. Seriously, it could save your life. You do not need a full roll. Wrap some around a knife sheath, extra straps on your bag. Wrap it anywhere.

Simple things that are very small and light weight. Salt, pepper and sugar packs, just a few of them. You get the urge for something salty or sweet, rip one open and pour in mouth.

Remember, sometimes the smallest thing can be your best piece of equipment.

well since we are in survival mode here some USES FOR FERN...

A) Makes a great substitute for toilet paper
B) Can boil as tea and in small doses can kill intestine parasites but watch out it is toxic (that is why it works).
C) Makes a great bedding for animals therefore for humans. + repels some insects.

After seeing @Magnus's 6 week BOB to go on his first hunt lol, Prepping for my first hunt I couldn't sleep last night and around 3am found myself searching for Large A.L.I.C.E Pack because his mention of one. Bought one with frame and waterproof liner and waterproof covers in Snow White and woodland camo for different times of the year. To make a long story short..where now I use two separate bags that have become quite heavy(more then 72 hour planning) i will join most into the new pack and put most that shit from your post in it lol(I do prepare and overprepare for sure but really obviously not most of that shit on his list). Now I'll keep still a second bag anyway for redundancy with guns ammo and 72 hour prepared, but now it will be muuuch lighter being the Alice with frame will be my mule.

Alice is a really good bag. lol that frame does help, i use it for camping and it gets to about 60 lbs. Barely feel the strain of the weight.

Yea I'm more of a practical "pack it all and fit it all" kinda prepper, so Alice was more my decision over a Molle and it's cute accessorizing abilities..besides, the weathering abuse an Alice can take is real and tested for decades over a metrosexual 90s velco and accessorize everything to the outside kinda pack.

I see dozens and dozens of websites that tell us how to build them, where to buy a completed bag and so much more.

As usual, so many Americans buy this crap hook, line and sinker. A bug Out Bag, Get Home Bag or whatever you call yours is a great thing to have. I have a small GHB at work. I have a larger bag in my Jeep and at home I have a BOB. All of us in my home have a BOB. I have done serious research on these. I have not even come close to perfecting any of them. I add and take away regularly. Hopefully by the time I need them, I will have made them perfect.

I see so many people running out and buying everything under the sun to put in these bags. They get these bags filled and leave them in a closet or in the basement. They put no additional thought after the original putting together.

They buy these gadgets, tool and supplies and have no idea how to use have the stuff they have. They buy a steal and flint to build a fire and have no idea how to use it. They buy food that is designed to last years with never tasting the food. They buy things to purify water, buy either have no idea how to find water and less of an idea how to use the tools of purification that they bought. They read Survival magazines, but they never practice what they read.

They know how to drive home from work, but have no idea how to get home without a car or their normal routes. We see that in the Buffalo area when the snow comes down hard and fast.

I guess my overall point is simple, use and learn all that you have. Everything that goes into your bags should have a real purpose and you should have a very good idea how to use it.

Yup and yup. I've practiced magnesium starters for just that reason, bought extra lifestraw and tried it even though you just suck up. Many things I chuck in bag are my own thoughts on redundancy,like couple 9v batteries and steelwool, cotton balls and small vasiline for fires.broke down a paracord bracelet to strands for fishing or hammock needs,Practiced on my HAM. Easy enough stuff. One thing I'm not gonna do is crack open and waste a sealed Mayday 1200 calories bar and taste it though cause the way i see it is, even if it's disgusting it's better than snails and rats lol.
