Calibers can be changed via different barrels...

I'd like one of their new "Cyclops" models in 45/70...maybe I can pick one up used; if they're like the ADC "Alaskan Survival model" most have only been shot a couple times.

I have one in .45/.410 as well.
Similar opinion, with one exception. With .410 it makes a decent snake gun.

Cool, but heavy for a backup. Might as well just carry another loaded 10-rd mag. Or you can have a .38 or .357 mag 5-shooter for a little larger size, but less weight (I swear I'm not trying to convince anyone else to buy a S&W 340).
Will it work as a backup? Sure. They are well-built by reputation. They are fun to shoot a few times. They're mechanically more accurate than they are practically accurate.

Shot a buddies Bond Derringer at the range a couple times. It was a 2" in .357.
Well made firearms, excellent construction and a nice feeling action.
Recoil in .357 was brisk but not unbearable, wouldn't go so fat as to say it was pleasant to shoot but it wasn't painful.

Yea, it's only 2 shots, requires manual cocking between the shots and is heavier than my 6 shot LCP.
But, .410 with #4 is a lot better against a snake than .380, and you probably won't have time for more than 2 shots if a snake attacks anyway.

Agreed on the LCP vs Bond Arms.
As far as snake shot, I don't see any need. There's no snake "attack" where you only had time for 1 or 2 shots. You either didn't have time for any shots or you had all the time in the world and it wasn't life-or-death for you, you wanted to kill it. See, snakes only strike as a last-ditch defense. You'd have to pretty much step on one for it to strike at you without warning, in which case, you had the time to get off 0 shots. If it gives you the courtesy of warning you to get away, your best and by far your fastest defense is to step out of its strike range. Drawing a handgun and shooting it is waaaay slower than stepping away. Snakes strike fast within their immediate area, but they can't cover ground quickly and sure as hell don't chase down humans to bite them.
Now if you find a venomous snake on your property and want to kill it for you and your family's safety, sure, go for it. That said, indiscriminate killing of any snake that rattles its tail or hisses in warning is a bad idea. It's putting evolutionary pressure on both venomous and nonvenomous snakes that makes them less likely to rattle or hiss before striking. I'd much rather have a snake give me a loud and clear warning to get back than a dose of its venom.

Sure, if it's just you, you're either already bit, or you can walk away.
But, if you are out walking with your wife and dogs and there's a snake in the path things can get more complicated.
And my property has some areas that are effectively one way due to steepness. You may have a section of the path that you can't easily just go back or go around.
Haven't had to shoot any predators yet, 0, 2, or 4 legged, but I carry anyway, and I carry based on what sort of predators I am likely to run into on a particular trip.
That's not to say I haven't killed any. Got a snake with the excavator a while back. Didn't even know it was there till I dumped the bucket of dirt and half a snake landed on top of the pile though.

The water moccasin can be very aggressive certain times of the year and will attack as well as strike.

Besides not being anywhere near NY, all of that about cottonmouths being aggressive and chasing people is BS.
As far as the Northern Water Snake, which we do have in NY, they're neither aggressive nor venomous and they're no danger to anyone or pets... unless you're out walking your pet frog. Anyone shooting those is just an asshole.
I don't want to keep railroading this thread so I'll just say this. No snake is going to chase you down to bite you. I'm no bleeding heart. Kill any animal that poses a real threat to you or your family including snakes. Copperheads are the venomous snakes that bite the most Americans per year, but Rattlesnakes kill the most Americans. If you do get bit by a snake, killing it and taking a photo to show at the hospital may help you get the correct antivenin quickly and save your life and limb. My problem is with the "only good snake is a dead snake" mindset and the people who kill any snake they come across. Those people are retarded. It would be like going around killing every dog you see because dogs kill people.

I have one in 410/45 colt. Has a 4” barrel. Recoil like a 1911 in 45. I also have the 357 barrels for it. Very manageable. Fun gun to have. Fit and finish is excellent. I got the gun at BFC. Ordered the extra barrel direct from Bond Arms. No FFL needed.
