Booby trap shotgun??

"A bad prank, a booby trap, or a strange set of circumstances? These photos are of a shotgun purchased online and shipped to a dealer in VA. The BATFE was notified when it was realized the receiver was modified to hold a pistol round aimed at the person firing the weapon. The weapon was loaded with a .380 ACP round. The trigger group obscured the round until the weapon was broken down for inspection. When chambering the shell the weapon would be cycled with the slide action bar coming into contact with the primer on the pistol round pointed at the shooter. It had marks from being struck but the round did not discharge. Had it fired it was aligned with the top of the pistol grip stock and would have possibly struck the shooter in the face. This is obscure but still a little scary."

Saw this in my feed. Tried looking for more info but found nothing. Could be a fake story but still found the shotgun interesting.

During the Vietnam war the special operations command directed several operations to sabotage the Vietcong
ammunition by reloading sporadic rounds with plastic explosives w/o they ever knowing they were there.
Only a few years ago we learned about this classified top secret operations.
This was intended to impact the morale and strike fear on the enemy troops as some soldiers would randomly blow up their faces
and they didn't trust the ammunition supply.

crazy .. but how in heck could you get a drill in there to make the hole for the 380 and not scrape up the blueing on the side .. that is really close to the edge .. drill bit would need to what 7 inches or more long to keep it in the drill chuck..

as @meketrefe said .. would be a lot easier to just have the gun loaded with shells reloaded with say the wrong powder and HOT and lay it out to be found or sold with said bad ammo ..
