Aside from the illegal, unconstitutional, and moronic pabulum espoused in Mr. Scharfenberg's screed, I found this portion particularly illustrative of his level of ignorance:

This "reporter" has no idea what firearms cost. It would be spreading salt in a fresh wound to "offer" law-abiding citizens less than their property was worth in a mandatory confiscation dressed up as a "government buyback." To cement his proof of ignorance he implies that at $500/gun the government would be "overpaying."
Mr. Scharfenberg writes about government "offers" and "bids" for firearms. I'm sure he rails against single-bidder contracts awarded by the federal government. So, what if law-abiding citizens decided not to sell or to simply refuse the current bid? He'd say that isn't an option. So much for freedom. Eh, Mr. Scharfenberg?
Would Mr. Scharfenberg insist that in order to promote fuel efficiency and remove carbon-spewing muscle cars from the roads, "...Uncle Sam might offer $5,000," for Mustangs, Corvettes, Camaros, Lamborhinis, and Bugattis?

I think putting up a "show" of only having compliant guns is COMPLETELY different from being compulsory forced to surrender them.
The former is a cumbersome burden most here have begrudgenly made peace with or plans to move to a free state, the later is our constitutional rights being taken away most likely resulting in insurgency and/or civil war.

Let's make an assumption that every single LE person and military along with all acronym agency personnel would participate in the confiscation program. They would still be outnumbered by a margin of over 10-1... Jails couldn't handle the load, nor could the courts if everyone resisted.
Confiscation will never be a reality without voluntary compliance and that we here in this country have owning a firearm is a constitutional right, it will never happen except by force. And that as I point out above would never work out effectively. ; )
I just hate the subject and all the brain drain when people think its even possible.

Exactly. It will become more "security theater" for the masses.
The government will, at some point (given current gains by the Left), crack down on civilian ownership of almost all firearms. They'll do son incrementally: "Assault weapons," then rifles with magazines, then semiauto pistols and shotguns, then bolt action rifles, then pump action shotguns, and eventually revolvers. It will take years and patience. But, that has been the Left's primary tactic: Slow, irreversible, legislative steps.
Of course, those who do not comply will have some firearms kept for a real SHTF scenario. But, those guns will not be able to be transported in plain view. Practicing with firearms will be difficult. And...as with prohibition, a thriving black market for illegal firearms will arise.
Balls and bravery is what has traditionally won wars. Who made up the ranks of the first Continental Army? Regular Joes, farmers and the like. Who made up up the ranks of our military in what was this county's finest hour during WW2? Again regular joes like all of us. Like them we need to put the needs of liberty before our own safety and survival. Wait? For what? For how long? No clear plan? Then let's get on one ASAP Goddamint! It's up to us, all of us! Not someone else, not our kids in the future, not the cops, not the military, not some non existent political messiah, US, NOW! And I'll tell you when: the next time the balance of power shifts parties. Republican, Democrat, it doesn't matter who it's from and too. The issue is that political trends are a pendulum. One that swings wider and wider with every change. This past election has marked the ragged limit, when it swings back the other way it will go so far it will shatter. And it's up to the Patriots of the nation to pick up the pieces and forge them back together again. Next Presidential election, be ready.
But they won't. Realize that units and organizations may well have two chains of command, the official one and the shadow one that will mutiny.

100% I absolutely agree with this. I really believe this is our last chance to save this country. Once the left gets back in power they are going to jump the shark and pull so far to the left to never allow the right to win meaningful elections again.
The midterms will be coming up and then the 2020 election. We had better dann well hope the so nothing republicans in Congress get re elected with no or minimal Democrat/leftist gains and that a Democrat doesn't win 2020.

I'm going to bow out of this particular thread in responding to you since you feel insulting and disparaging someone's character is a good choice rather than using logic.

At the point the government comes to take away a basic right, to hell with teaching moments or the cause.
Everyone will need to decide the way they go out.
You can give up your guns, then wait for the next one of your rights to be taken away.

You can, for no other reason than your own satisfaction, decide to stand up for your own personal well being and freedoms.
We are talking about an all out confiscation which makes all firearms completely outlawed, nationwide.
No hunting, no skeet, no target, no self defense.....ever again, for anyone.

I have many gun loving, liberal hating friends that would hand over their guns in an instant rather than put their families in danger.
If on the other hand the police went door to door to take the children of gun owners because guns are dangerous, then there would be a different outcome.
I know a guy that handed 3 ARs and an AK to the local sheriff the day after the SafeAct was enacted.
He didnt want to register them to avoid a future confiscation involving his 3 kids. No local FFLs would touch them that soon after the law.
I'd rather die. Or in the case of the UNSAFE Act, move. Which I did at no small effort or expense.

Most of us age wise are beyond being front line infantry material. We are soft both mentally and physically for a real fight and have no organized support system to back us up. Hell we can't even organize a non violent protest in Albany with any significant participation. You going to have your 10 year old daughter bring up ammo and pb&j sandwiches to where the shooting is? Some/many of us never served in the military or if we did it was in a service/support role. How the f..k would that group fare against even 1 infantry battalion? Their firepower and discipline would overwhelm anything the armed citizens could organize. How would the armed citizen filled with righteous indignation fare against a couple of A10 Warthogs? Not much protection against a 30mm explosive shell is there?
And after the slaughter, the photos and videos of the mangled corpses and shocked and sniveling prisoners would quickly dissuade other citizens from fighting against our professional soldiers. Those who would actually go and fight against gun confiscation are a very, very small group with an even smaller chance of survival.
And don't count on a "mutiny" by members of the armed forces. They are trained to follow orders despite what they might say in barracks bullshit sessions.

The problem that the Left does not truly foresee, however, is that if the Constitutional/Right crowd seriously resists there will not be many of the #resist crowd left to criticize. They should be thankful that the Right is mostly composed of law-abiding, peaceful, hard-working, people. Otherwise, things would have escalated long before now.

I disagree with you 100% . If the time came to use military forces against US civilians , the military would split like they do in every other civil war in history. Officers would break away with their units . An officer is not going to give orders to attack his own hometown and the soldiers who live there arent going to either. You can see this as recently in the Iraqi Army and the Afgan army and before that The ARVN units in Vietnam were they are notorious for not wanting to fight. There are Law enforcement officers who refuse to enforce the safe act as a violation of their oath to the people of this country. In the event of of orders to confiscate by force , Some police officers are not going to comply with that.Then there was the incident at the Bundy ranch where Federal agents loaded for bear showed up ready for a fight only to find themselves out numbered and nearly surrounded by armed civilians , where there were ex military combat snipers on both sides of the line facing each other. and you which side left the field? It wasn't the civilians.
What your saying is true, civilians are no match for a professional army in a pitched battle, then again , they don't have to be . If it wasn't for the body armor and hi speed medical care the death toll in Iraq and Afghanistan would have been 4 times higher than it was. The Viet Cong had no armor or air support and they inflicted serious losses on the US useing basic weapons, the Iraqis developed IEDS and slow the army right down in the citys.
These types of conflicts depend upon the moral of the people.not weapons.

I've been into learning about the civil war. I just got done reading "God's and generals" and the first hundred pages or so spends a lot of time talking about the moral dilemmas that the army officers were facing in the late 1850s to early 1860a when deciding where their allegiances were.
It was really a good characterization of the way the country split and how troubling it was for some of the individuals. Really interesting was Robert E Lee really did not want the civil war at all, and literally lived across the river from DC in Arlington. But when war was inevitable and he had no alternative he couldn't go against his home and fellow Virginians.
I think the military now would fracture too. Many members take their oath very seriously and if it becomes apparent that the constitution has been internally subverted and thrown in the trash and gun confiscation was now the plan, that a significant number would resign, support or be sympathetic to the patriots while others would refuse to take arms against American civilians. Don't get me wrong there are still plenty in the military (especially obama era officer holdovers, since he did a good job purging leadership he didn't like) who would willingly go against Americans and underlings who would go along with it. But I don't think it's quite so clear cut. It would be ugly and messy all around.
