Nope, nobody really "forces" them to stay, but being without a job makes advancements in life difficult...The Company closing up shop doesn't exactly do anyone any favors.Nobody forces them to stay in that work profession.

I agree, to a very small degree. Same can be said for all the nitwits going to college for education in nothing they`ll be able to support themselves with later, either, but we`re suppose to feel sorry for them? Nope, i don`t feel any more sorry for those in the LE and corrections employment either. You know full well going into it, what you`ll be up against employment wise. There`s other work out there. My "give-a-fukk" button broke a long time ago.Nope, nobody really "forces" them to stay, but being without a job makes advancements in life difficult...The Company closing up shop doesn't exactly do anyone any favors.
Corrections officers from soon-to-be shuttered state prison apply to county - Mid Hudson News
MONTICELLO – Following Governor Kathy Hochul’s announcement that she is closing down the Sullivan Correctional Facility in Woodbourne, state correctional officers who work there are applying for jobs at the Sullivan County Jail. Jail Chief Harold Smith said so far, 15 to 20 officers at the state...midhudsonnews.com
A sergeant at Woodbourne Correctional Facility, which is next to Sullivan CF told me Woodbourne will most likely be closed in the next year, too. He has 14 months to retire and can't wait. He has been out on sick leave for the past 2 weeks after getting his ass kicked by 2 inmates. He is facing a civil lawsuit from both of them because of injuries he inflicted on them. One had a scratch on his arm, the other a red mark on his chest. They are suing NYS first, and if the state settles they will proceed with their lawsuit against him and the state always settles.
Can confirm. I'm not familiar with this situation but my aunt works at Greenhaven in Dutchess County (not a CO...she works in inmate records I believe). There are stories like that from there too. Inmates can literally kill a CO with almost no consequences and if CO lays a hand on him it's lawsuits and dismissals.
God damn clown world is what we live in.
Nobody forces them to stay in that work profession.
True, no one forces them to stay. But here in Sullivan County a CO can make well over $100,000 a year with overtime. Not many high school graduates without nothing but that HS diploma will ever make that kind of money.
