It was coming, after several major companies pulled their adds from youtube, because of googles inability to police content and submissions ads were showing on some pretty nasty vids. So Google has responded by pulling ads from an anything that is not 100% in line with the PC police. It's not just guns, its video game channels, political talk channels. Anyone posting content that could at all offend anyone is having their videos demonetized.
Health issues that mention drugs, alcohol reviews, videos about history from a completely educational point, all these and more are having their ads pulled.

Apparently there is more to this than I originally thought. Popular channels are having to rename their videos and even change descriptions to appease advertisers. One of my go-to channels (Military Arms Channel) is currently not monetized. You might think YouTube (Google/Alphabet) is partly to blame, but apparently a lot of advertisers have jumped ship lately. A lot of the comments I read on YouTube are not really educated.. "how hard is it to make a new pro-gun site herp derp" Full30.com is kind focused that way, but doesn't have anywhere near the traffic that YouTube does, both in viewing and uploading.
It's these liberal scum CEOs. Something needs to be done about them. Liberals cannot be allowed to hold the purse strings.
