Build my precision Rifle!

If you are shooting to 1000 yards the Creedmoor will be more resistant to wind drift and have less drop. the drawback is you will be replacing the barrel in half the rounds you would the 308.
Rule of thumb for scope power is 1x for every 100 yards, that being said I have the 15-60x50 Vortex Golden Eagle mounted on my Creedmoor.

You will want a 20 degree mount/base so you have plenty of room to dial up to 1000.

Forget the bipod and get a decent rest/bag combo.

The Remington is a good base, once you get it blueprinted, replace the Barrel, Stock and Trigger you will be able to do what you want to do. Remington rifles built today are not the Remington rifles of 30 years+ ago.

Buy 200 pieces of Lapua brass and fully prepare them then load according to your gun's preference.

Mek will be by to tell you the virtues of Burga guns and 6mm calibers so I wont steal his thunder.

You may want to just start off with a bare action since funds are limited.
Get the barrel you want,
the trigger you want,
the stock you want,
the recoil lug you want,
the bottom metal you want,
the scope, rings and base you want and
have a gunsmith put it together for you.
That way it wont be shot out by the time you have everything you want.

This is my precision rifle I had built from a 30-06 SPS a few years ago. It started off as a 650 dollar rifle and had everything removed so basically a fresh start with a bare action. (which is why it would be cheaper to just buy a bare action for 400 bucks)

Go with the 6.5. Better flight characteristics. Less recoil.

Dont worry about wearing the barrel out.

Oh! And you need a suppressor to really round it out.

So you guys think the 6.5-20X50 is good? that would be the first thing im planning on buying.

20 power is going to work but, you are not going to be able to read the wording on the targets past 300 yards. You cannot hit small things if you cannot see small things.

You might be better off just buying a Ruger Precision Rifle or the Savage Precision Rifle and putting a scope on it, then be done with it. You are looking at 1000-1500 + optics that way verses 2000 + for a build then optics on top of that.

knuts, in a sense you're already spending too much by contemplating a build without having all the data you truly need to make an informed decision. Do yourself a favor and forget about putting together the uber rifle of your dreams, buy a Tikka and spend the left over part of your budget on ammo and a quality optic. An AI chassis is awesome, love them and would recommend one in a second..........to someone who's genuinely aware of what they want in their setup, and ready to spend upwards of $3k on a build.

Ballistics of the 6mm and 6.5 pills is tough to beat, and where you'll likely end up after some time shooting, but I wouldn't necessarily forsake the .308. Ammo is ALWAYS available, cheap, and learning on a .308 will make shooting a 6.5 someday seem like CHEATING! Spend more on your optic and less on the rifle, you'll be glad you did IMO.

Pretty much a perfect "high" end starter rifle, chassis, 6.5, and out of the box quality.

The only thing I don't like is the 1-11 twist for the 6.5 CM I would prefer a 1-8 or 1-7.

Nevermind the specs on GB are wrong the Tikka website has it at 1-8 twist.

Gotta believe they offer it in the right twist, they were way ahead of the curve when it came to their .223 builds

yeah the gun broker add was wrong they are using the 308 twist for some reason.

OP,
If you want to build a rifle for a particular shooting discipline, you need to talk to people who shoot it. I shoot highpower rifle and this is the last place I would seek advice for equipment. No offense to anyone here, just that there is a better way to do it. There must be a forum for precision rifle shooting. I would ask there or attend a match and talk to people after the match. You will save a lot of time and money. Don't go at it alone, you don't know what you don't know.

50% of AIs cost is in the name. You can do just as good with XLR, KRG, and about a half dozen others and you wont blow your wad. Grab Magpuls AI mags, and you save 40 a pop right there.

Honestly.
A good starter would be Magpuls Hunter 700 setup for a little under $1000 for the barreled action, the stock, the bottom metal, and a few mags you're just waiting on your scope and your gtg.

The Magpul is a piece of junk when compared to any of the chassis mentioned, and you're chasing moonbeams to suggest a DIY Remington 700 will shoot like a plug and play factory Tikka. You can roll the dice with the boys at Ilion, I'll spare myself the trouble and recommend others do the same. Sure there's plenty of solid choices in chassis these days, few if any hold their value like an Accuracy Intl.

You recommended using a shit stock combined with a sub par factory action, instead of a Tikka or Bergara that will blow it out of the water every day of the week. Why offer such bad advice if you're not prepared to defend it?

You compared top chassis against the Magpul stock. Yeah I'm gonna defend your attempt at a strawman... how do you know it'll blow it out of the water? Your anti-Rem bias is too strong you could look a dime-sized group in the face and say 'Luck'. For the $1500-1600 he'll pay on a Bergara or a Tikka he can find a R700, have the action trued (if he even needs it at this point), throw it in a decent starter stock while he learns the sport, and have probably $500 to buy a single stage setup to reload precision rounds. Oh and when he moves up in the world, guess what... that R700 action gets a trued, if he hasnt done it already, it gets a new high quality barrel, and chassis system, while that Bergara/Tikka sits in the safe. Good call

I've no "anti-Rem" bias, I just know their quality control stinks when compared to a Tikka or Bergara.
