I bought a 10 fcp sr when they were $450 ish after the rebate. The stock is just Ok but for that price I thought it was a great overall rifle. I'm used to the trigger but might look to improve it later down the road.

I bought a 10 fcp sr when they were $450 ish after the rebate. The stock is just Ok but for that price I thought it was a great overall rifle. I'm used to the trigger but might look to improve it later down the road.
I poured 5 pounds of shot in the back of mine so it would be butt stock heavy verses barrel heavy. The accustock just feels cheap to me.

It doesn't mean the factory doesn't work but it gives problems and is not considered reliable in the industry.
That is why no one single high end action based in the reminton 700 uses the factory extraction system other than Remington.
Folks might have different opinions and their personal likes/dislikes but this doesn't change the facts.

I've been thinking about getting a B&C stock to put on my Tikka. The rifle is fine but the stock always felt lacking to me.

It is always harder for lefties but there are great options out there in several brands.
If you like the Remington 700 go with it. Just keep in mind one might be spending 2 or 3 times more for the same results.
Take a look at this rifle that shoots 1/2 moa out of the box...
The only thing I would do to it is to get a cheek adjusted for ergonomics and also get a steel base (TPS ok) bedded
to the action. Then put a Vortex Razor on it and go shoot whatever one is going to shoot from any rifle no matter
how much one puts into it. You also have the evolution model in left hand but there is no proof anywhere
they shoot any better than the accustock ones.

Also check the Tikka T3 left hand that has tactical and stealth stocks available in left hand version too.
I am not against the R700, I have a few of them but blueprinting and building one from scratch it doesn't pay off
same as the AI international one will take a huge hit for nothing specially on a left hand.

Factory stocks on budget rifles they are all tupperware grade. They can be improved to a degree with some stiffening and bedding and if one is
handy and have some basic knowledge and tools. The only decent stocks on the mid budget are the savage accustock that has an aluminum bed
going all along and the Bergara that while not perfect is a lot better quality than tikka, remington, axis, ruger, etc..
The B&C is probably the best value and one will get the same or even more function and accuracy than stocks costing x3 times that much.
Just make sure you like the ergonomics or prepare to shim/cut the butplate and/or adjust the comb if the stock doesn't have ergonomics
adjustment.
I actually use the B&C myself among others and while it might require some minor fitting and setup they work like the best.

BG, appears the Premier line has a fluted bolt, Timney trigger, and you get the scope rail and XLR chassis.
Match precision line has Bergara trigger, Bergara chassis, and no rail, barrels look to be the same.

If you get one definitely do a range review. Considering how much you shoot and don't baby your guns I feel like it would be a honest take on the rifle.

I am not the best shot.....but i can get my marksman buddy to shoot tiny groups for sure.....I will have no problem throwing it around and dragging it in the mud though.......i am well qualified for that!

Ok easy enough. Just need to find a chassis or stock that you like. Just torque the action screws to the stock or chassis specs. I use a wheeler torque wrench.

The factory SPS is a hit and miss situation. It seems remington is going through some rough times and that is affecting
their quality so don't think the SPS is what it used to be.
If you like quality and consistency and in that bracket the Bergara is the way to go. The way the remington should
be built IMO.
I am telling you from my experience and from owning these rifles and having upgrade them and rebarreled them myself too.

So here she is, took me longer than i expected and went over my budget hahah, which is alright. I didnt feel the expense cause it took months to build and im really happy on how she looks. Its a crappy photo, literally just snapped one photo and went to sleep last night as it was really late finishing her up.

Action - Get a Remington 700 action if you plan on getting aftermarket work done. It's by far the most popular action and thus its easier to find a gunsmith who can work on it. You could also consider a Savage action for the same reason. If you don't want to bother with aftermarket modifications, you could also look at getting a FN SPR (basically a Mauser-based action) which offers controlled-round-feeding. Generally-speaking, all of the major action designs are very well-designed and robust at this point, so any discussion of which one to pick is mostly nit-picking.
Caliber - If this is your first precision rifle, I'd say get a .308 and here is why:
Optics - Get a scope of a reliable brand (Vortex, Leupold, Nightforce, Schmidt and bender are some big names that come to mind). For long range precision going out 1000 yards you'll want:
Muzzle brake - A lot of factory rifles don't come with muzzle brakes. However you can get those put on by aftermarket gun smiths. I went to Dark Eagle Custom in the Finger Lakes to get a muzzle brake on my rifle: Darkeagle Custom, Inc. He is located in the Finger Lakes area and is well-regarded in NY's precision rifle community (precision rifle builds/modifications is his main focus). If you get a .308, you NEED a muzzle brake to allow for efficient follow-up shots. If you get a 6.5 CM, you'll still want one.
Scope rings - get precision matched rings so that you don't have to lap them. Normally the scope companies will have optional rings. Try to keep the scope ring height as low as is possible in order to facilitate good/easy sight picture acquisition.
Trigger - Don't fiddle with it until you've put some rounds through the rifle. Most stock triggers can be adjusted for a lighter pull, but I strongly advise learning the in's and out's of your rifle before you start messing with the trigger.
Bipods - Get some Harris swivel bipolds (either 6"-9" or 9"-13" depending on how big you are) and call it a day. There are better bipods out there, but they cost a lot more. Harris bipods are cheaper, work well and are very durable (they are heavily used in the military and LEO communities).
Don't assume that you need to buy all sorts of modifications right after getting your first rifle. I'd spend more time and money on range time and practicing your fundamentals. A well-trained marksman with a stock Remington 700 is going to be more accurate than a novice with a modded up and expensive aftermarket build.

Caliber - If this is your first precision rifle, I'd say get a .308 and here is why:
- Better barrel life. Easily 5k-6k rounds (in some cases 7k-9k rounds) before you start to see accuracy degredation.
- .308 match loads are more common and generally easier to find.
- .308 will be a good cartridge to really learn the fundamentals and deal with wind calls.
- .308 rifles are so common that you should be able to pick up a lightly-used one for a good price.
Optics - Get a scope of a reliable brand (Vortex, Leupold, Nightforce, Schmidt and bender are some big names that come to mind). For long range precision going out 1000 yards you'll want:
- FFP (front focal plane) reticle. This basically means that the measurements on the reticle will have the same value, regardless of the magnification the scope is set at (this is important for call shot corrections and range estimation).
- A good reticle with measurement indications (in Mil Radian or MOA). Make sure the turret adjustments are in the same unit of measurement as the reticle (most scopes are set up this way by default).
- At least 4x magnification on the low end and at least 15 magnification on the high end. 18-20x magnification will give you a slightly better target pictures for 900-1000 yard targets, but a 15x magnification is the bare minimum for getting the job done IMO.
- Parallax adjustment. There is a bit of nuance to this topic but in short, this adjustment helps to ensure you have clear and accurate sight picture.
- Illuminated reticle. Comes in handy for low-light shooting.
- A common mistake by many novice shooters is to spend a lot of $ on the rifle but then cheap out on the scope. Don't do that! You want a good, reliable scope that gives you decent sight pictures out to longer distances.
