People told you that you have a right to life, safety & to feel secure.
Well…you don’t have a right to life, a right to safety or a right to feel secure.
I’m sure someone told you that you do, but the Supreme Court of the United States (hereinafter “SCOTUS”) says otherwise.
“…Court determined that the Fourteenth Amendment did not require a state or local governmental agency to protect its citizens from private violence or other mishaps not attributable to the conducts of its employees.” Deshaney v. Winnebago County Dept. of Social Services, 489 U.S. 189, 191 (1989).
The government isn’t responsible when it fails to protect you.
You are responsible for protecting yourself.
That is the way it is, unless you can get the SCOTUS to say otherwise. Good luck on that. (If you got the case, I’ve got the SCOTUS bar admission, so…we’ll talk!)
As to guns, gun violence (as opposed to pressure cooker violence – seriously, if a few guys from central Asia could rig a piece of cooking equipment into a weapon using over the counter firecrackers…well, you get where this is going…should I go on to talk about the misuse of cars?) & gun bans…
You live in a country in which there is a right to keep & bear arms. That means, “[t]he Constitution leaves a variety of tools for combating the problem of [gun] violence, including some measures regulating [guns]. But the enshrinement of constitutional rights necessarily takes certain policy choices off the table.” District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570, 573 (2008).
You aren’t getting the ban on guns you want. No – we aren’t shredding the constitution because Jimmy Kimmel (or you) want(s) us to. (Haven’t watched the show, but I hear when he cries a lot…since when did that become a thing? Doesn’t work with my wife when I cry…so…kinda confused…but, you people do what you do…)
I know…I’m snarky. If you want comfort, the University Of Michigan Law School is likely looking for students. (https://www.weaselzippers.us/307133-university-of-michigan…/)
