I would assume that semi truck drivers would get some sort of break on the milage tax or pay a flat fee. This of course is a pure assumption that anyone in the government has any sense at all so I could easily be wrong.
As an EV owner I think it makes sense to move away from the model of taxing per gallon and moving it to per mile. Pursuant to above I do not expect that we will see taxes withdrawn from gas, as would be fair. Instead this will be a new tax, additional tax

Been like that for a few years, for whatever reason. Go figure that fuel oil + detergents + taxes is somehow cheaper than fuel oil.
I found out my supplier was ripping me off I bought a hose with fuel oil and called them about a delivery. They said I’d burn through2-3 tanks/year very close to three tanks and quoted me some ridiculous monthly amount. This was 15 years ago so I said no I’ll call you when I need a tank of oil. Don’t you know that one tank lasted me until January.... Of the following year. I got 1.5 years out of one tank when they said I’d need 2.5 tanks per year. Amazing Isn’t it?
Charged fairly, that should still be notably cheaper than on-road diesel. It doesn't cost a dollar or more per gallon to transport fuel to your house.
