Buyer Behavior: Why Ammunition Sales Are Down
Based on public reports filed by manufacturers, demand for ammunition has been in decline. Several possibilities have been cited as driving this trend, including a firearm-friendly White House and U.S. Senate which has reduced the fear-driven sales seen prior to the 2016 election.



Many in the trade speculate that consumers previously purchased excess ammo and now are ‘shooting through’ their surpluses. But what do ammunition consumers say about the matter?

The average is only $400?! That's only a case worth! I spend thousands. Though I haven't bought any in months. Time to buy!
I am planning on getting a case of that Saltech Swiss manufacture 7.62x51, a case of the Magtec 5.56 77gr OTM, a case of the Federal 62gr open tip stuff for evaluation, a couple cases of various 9mm.......... and I suppose that's about it. For now. While prices are low and once the income from the new job starts rolling in I wanna stack a couple cases of each of the three calibers every month. By the time Trump's second term is over I wanna be sitting on a big ass stash. Say some 10k rounds.

I have a sense we will look back on this time fondly and will all wish we had purchased more while prices were low. Sooner or later some socialist a-hole democrat will make it to the white house and then the anti-gun and anti-ammo laws and policies will return.

My outlook is things can change quickly. Who knows what back room deal is going to fall on our heads? A lesson I learned, what about 2013, stack it. I remember ds calling and asking if we wanted more .22lr and dh saying, "No, we have enough for now." It was about $18.00 for a bucket or thereabouts. It finally has come down but not to that level. I remember buying .9mm with no problem. Then, the 'lemme see your pistol permit' came around. I wasn't buying for a pistol. Let's see, plinking out back with ds, 50 round mag., semi-auto .22. There are many other examples and I hope I am wrong but, my hinky sense is acting up lately. I really wonder if there is something brewing.

I wish I was shooting my surplus!
Since the weather has finally started to cooperate, I've got non stop outdoor projects to catch up on and that's the real bitch about NY.
By the time it's warm enough to spend a day shooting up some stash, the blades on the mowers need to be swapped, the oil in the mowers needs to be changed, the grass needs to be cut, the bushes are growing into the driveway, the weeds look like bushes, the gutters are plugged, the garden needs to be tilled, planted and watered and blah blah blah. The list seems endless.

Come election time we'll see it spike again.

Who's in office will have an effect on our spending habits.
It can get expensive stockpiling ammo. And finding a place to store all that ammo can become a issue for some. So with the current president, we tend to relax a little.

The pendulum will eventually swing back in the other direction. How far or how fast is anyone's guess. I don't advocate stockpiling to prepare for the zombie apocalypse, but as a consumer of goods in a volatile market, it makes sense to buy when the prices are low to make it easier to ease the burden when they go back up.

Made good on my plans.......kinda.
Got a bunch of Hornady Frontier 223. From what I understand it Hornady projectiles and powder, Lake City brass and primers. I got a case of 55gr and a box each of 62, 68 and 77gr. All OTMs. Hornady/American Gunner 55gr HP Match has always shot very well for me and I am hoping the Frontier does as well. It's all under $.40 a round from SG Ammo. Crimped primers too which I like. If it shoots well enough I'll just make my whole stash out of Frontier.
Next time around I'll get the Galil food.

ya, I have air conditioners to install and this rain is fucked up my schedule, now Im 2 weeks out, it needs stop raining for at least a week

Further bucking the trend I have purchase a 560 round can of the Saltech, Swiss manufacture, 150gr 7.62x51. $310 shipped, not bad at all especially for new manufacturers stuff. My ACE likes 150gr ammo too.
Got it from Outdoor Limited which seems to have some good prices, I'll be shopping them in the future.
@meketrefe they offer the Black Hills 77gr 5.56 Sierra Tipped Matchking stuff @ $29.99 per 50.
That is the cheapest price on Black Hills stuff I have ever seen! Usually it goes for $1.10 a round. Unfortunately it was not in stock but if it ever gets in stock again at that price I will buy a quantity.
