Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) signed a bill Friday that allows the confiscatory period to expand to five years.
The California law will require co-workers requesting the orders to have “substantial and regular interactions” with gun owners to seek the orders and co-workers and school employees must get approval from their employers or school administrators before seeking them. People seeking the orders will have to file sworn statements specifying their reasons for doing so.

The measure was opposed by gun owners’ rights groups and the American Civil Liberties Union. The ACLU said the bill “poses a significant threat to civil liberties” because orders can be sought before gun owners have an opportunity to contest the requests.

Those allowed to request orders under the new law may “lack the relationship or skills required to make an appropriate assessment,” the ACLU said.

Under these "Red Flag" laws, basically anyone that knows you have firearms can petition the courts to take your guns. Be it true or totally false accusations.
Once the court has confiscated your property - good luck getting them BACK !!

These bill's will give assholes exactly their greatest wish.....to be bigger assholes. Anti 2nd libtards will be home crafting their lists and having orgasms over all the gun owners they work with that they are going to fuck over. No proof of any kind will be required and even if deemed ill advised, there will be no repercussions for the accuser.

If 5 years is better than 1, why not expand it to 10 years or more?

Is there anything in this bill to punish people for false accusations? Who cares about a sworn declaration.

These red flag laws all make sense in the same way the constitution allows you to be held against your will for a very short period of time before the police must charge you or release you. If we agree that's okay we can probably agree red flag laws are okay, but they must have a similar very short time frame, like 24 hours or whatever. A year, five years, it's total silliness. Police need to charge you or not, and thus cannot keep your legally purchased, constitutionally protected property.
