California shocked to find bill decriminalizing retail theft resulted in… more retail theft
A few years ago, California passed one in a series of bills aimed at emptying the jails and prisons. Proposition 47 carried the disingenuous name of “the Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act and its stated purpose was to keep non-violent offenders out of jail. To achieve this goal, the state decriminalized a number of lesser offenses, including retail theft. The law raised the value of the amount of merchandise someone could steal while still only being charged with a misdemeanor to nearly one thousand dollars.

To the great surprise of the government, people noticed this change and began taking advantage of it. They have now recorded multiple years of steadily increasing, organized robbery. These plots are known as “mass grab and dash” thefts

They promised me that it would years ago, and I’m getting impatient.

We have friends who moved to Hollywood about 20 years ago.
They have worked very hard for 2 decades to build a great business.
They rent/lease film production equipment....cameras, lights, microphones, set equipment......
They have become very successful.
Over the last 3-4 years they have had multiple break ins and thousands of dollars of equipment stolen.
They have found 2 dead people on their property, both overdoses from heroin.
They have to clean needles and human shit from their property daily.
They have uped security and installed cameras but the cops will NOT even look at the footage anymore when it comes to break ins.
So, over the last 6 months they have been selling alot of their stuff and have told the property owner they will be gone by Jan 2020.
They will be relocating to Florida to try the same business.

Almost 2,000 businesses a year leaving recently.
From taxes, to filth and lawlessness, Cali is a horrible place to own a business and live.
