A friend of mine was given an old trailer so he could have a place to take shelter on an old farm he bought.. Another friend and I hijacked it, towed it out in the woods and laid down a paint job on it.. He never fixed up the inside and ended up giving it away to someone.. I think he was afraid of the mice that liked to call it home..

It’s a snowtreckker base camp 10x13. They are hand made out west (Minnesota I think) very nice laid out website, but you need to actually call to order one. Probably the most expensive canvas tents per square foot, but quality is top notch! Very heavy YKK zippers Easton shock cord poles.
They also sell the wood stove, it’s a kin-co Alaska in mine all the flue pipe nests and everything fits inside the stove for storage.
I did pretty exhaustive research and kept coming back to this manufacturer.

We have a travel trailer, & so far are booked for Fair Haven Beach SP for Memorial Day and Kring Point SP early June, and the Finger Lakes Beer Festival at Watkins Glen International in October. My wife's been to work functions at Fair Haven & we took a spin thru Kring a few years back but will be first time camping at both parks. We didn't make it to The River in 2019 and missed it, we usually go every year. We're starting to research a week trip to Maine this summer, likely stay near Portland and hit as many breweries as we can. For a future Maine trip we'll check out Acadia. We're also likely going to camp at the KOA near Watkins Glen, as it's just over the hill from our home town so some family & friends would be able to visit us easily. I also am hoping to camp at Watkins Glen

We almost always do a week in the fall after school starts at Delta Lake SP, close to home so we pop home to shower & feed the cat, and leave the dog home if we end up having to do anything that requires us to not be at the park & dog can't accompany us.

Our other usual go to places are Green Lakes SP, Whetstone Gulf SP, and the beer fest at WGI. We also used to camp at the Great American Irish Festival at Herkimer fairgrounds, but this year they moved it to Utica around the brewery district so no festival camping unless we wanted to take our chances setting up camp in downtown Utica lol.

I think ~25 is about the coldest I've tent camped in. In a 3-season tent, that's chilly. Lucky I warm easy

Installed airbags on rear axle 2 years ago upgraded this year by installing on board compressor to inflate bags. Using Airlift products

There is an island off the coast of Maine that has extremely limited spots and you have to jump on a reservation as soon as they open the reservations up on April 1st. You have to take a boat over there and walk to your site. There is water and outhouses but everything else is primitive. I am going to try to get a reservation this year.

Either way I am going to go to Rollings Pond in June as it is great for drop camping as long as you protect yourself from the black flys).

Our little spot in the Fingerlakes. That’s Big Stream which feeds into Seneca lake bellow Glenora winery. We usually set up the tarp and tent in late spring and take it all down before the first snow. Peace and quiet at its best. Except for all the critters. The coyotes will make a hell of a racket at night.

Look at the Oswego County ATV club, they own a campground on the trail system that members can stay at, I don't know what they charge but I think it is discounted to members

Well so far the zombie apocalypse only cancelled one of my trips, the shakedown run to Evangola SP. I'm not super bummed about it seeing as it was supposed to happen this past weekend and the weather was shitty anyway.

Unrelated anyone ever camp in Allegheny National Forrest? We took a drive down there this weekend to scope it out. Seems like it has alot of potential to be fun but i was looking for real world experience/stories. I haven't looked into gun laws yet but seems like the kinda place you'd want at least a 12ga.

typically prefer small campgrounds.

I have backpacked in ANF, beautiful area for sure. There are at least a few "rustic" campgrounds and a bunch of first come first serve spots throughout the NF, many are accessible with RV's. I believe they also have a campground you can reserve spots (in normal times). Below is a source I use for researching northeast camping spots, a lot of info on ANF and maps.

As far as CCW goes, I believe its a lot like NY State Forests, if you can legally CC in that state you can carry in the National Forest. When I was in ANF I remember hearing folks plinking and some very clear spots where people target shoot as well, here is info on Target shooting in National Forest.

I don't know of any that are adults only, but below is a list DEC ADK campgrounds I've been to that have been primarily adults. If you're willing to backpack there are endless possibilities for camping with no one around.

Sharp Bridge CG (North Hudson) - Small, close to high peak region so a lot of hikers stay here. I've spent 5 nights here I believe, always been quiet (also no cell service) . No views, waterfront or kid stuff to do other than camp, also since its so small large RVs cant get in there.


Wilmington Notch CG (Wilmington) - Pretty much same as above, super small, mostly hikers. There is a waterfall view in the back of the CG, I think in the High Peaks families tend to go to the private CGs like the KOA.


Sacandaga CG (Wells) - Bigger than the other two and right on the Sacandaga river. I don't remember kids being here, not a super popular area but super nice being right on the river, the water flow puts you right to sleep. A lot of lesser known hikes in this area.


As far as Finger Lakes go, I've only stay in the Nation Forest area...In the summer the campgrounds usually have kids and are pretty full. Lots of backcountry sites in the FLNF to avoid them if you want though.

High bear populations for sure, keep your food away from you and in a “bear hang” and you shouldn’t have any problems. With that said, I still always carry Bear Spray and a firearm. Such a rural area, not many locals outside Warren and Kane, largest area is Bradford in the northeast part I think. But being originally from rural north central PA I’d say they’re generally great people (with exception to some white supremacists, don’t care for Vice but They did a really good video on it)

Man... I've been fucking DYING to go camping already. I haven't been in my roof top tent since I got my 3" lift done.

Had it not been for this fucking pandemic and shit weather I would have already been camping. This time last year I was already on my second outing. I'd love to be able to go backpacking again but ever since my buddy had kids, his wife is hot on his ass with the "where you going?" "you can't go camping" blah blah blah... god only knows my fiancee would die trekking miles into a site with a ruck sack.

Covid-19/time/weather permitting I have to drive out to Henderson, NV to visit my friend. I'd love to get in some overlanding with my truck in the desert.
