Can I have whatever I want on a rifle if I have a fixed magazine?

I want to build my first AR. To be NY compliant, I just need a fixed magazine correct? As long as I have a fixed magazine, can I then have a pistol grip or do I need to have a fixed magazine and have no other features? Sorry this is a really basic question.

As far as flame throwers go, a bill was introduced in response to someone maerketing a flamethrower which you could have bought for around $500. I do not think the bill passed but anyways ...

I get and agree with what you're saying but as others have alluded to it may not meet NY definition of "assault weapon" but could still be "firearm" and still prohibited under NY Law depending on configuration.

Yea, would be hard to outlaw them without running into outlawing legitimate tools.

What's funny is the one made by "The Boring Company" (Elon) they only made 500 (if I remember the amount correctly) or maybe 1,000 in total

Yep, and outlawing them would be impossible.

Back in high-school I made a more effective one out of a super soaker.

It was ridiculously dangerous, but it worked and nobody got hurt and we didn't burn anything that wasn't ours to burn.

I imagine we'd be sent to Guantanamo today for half the crap we did back then.

Think you know this already but it's not there bayonet lug is listed evil feature just like pistol grip etc that would miraculously transform your semiautomatic modern sporting rifle with detachable mag into a so-called assault weapon by the powers that be within NYS, unless of course you're exempt, then it's just a service rifle....
