cant get my rifle to cycle

My first build, and I thought I did a decent job, until I went to the range to fire it. one shot, no kills. no cycling of the next round. I had bought a a Odin works adjustable gas port. I tried fiddling with the adjustment and nothing ,then I lost the adjustment knob when i fired it and I said fuck that fancy shit ,just get me one that works, SO I bought a bravo co. gas block .I shot a blank through it and it wont cycle again. How hard can it be to line it up? So anyways Im kind of out of ideas

I have an 18 inch barrel . 0.75 the odin works went on no problem the Bravo company was super tight , Had to tap it in . I have them both flush to the ""gasport stop""? on the barrel . Now I cant see the actual hole to line it up visually , but I was considering tapping it back a pinch and see what happens . Anyone in western New York that can help me out ?

I wonder if you can just use some compressed air to see how well it's lined up ?

Remove the gas tube, close the bolt with an empty case in it to seal the breach, and then use a rubber tipped blow gun with an air compressor on the muzzle and see how much air you get out of the gas block ?

Is your gas port clear?

One trick I've used to insure the port is lined up with the gas block is to use a short piece of uncooked spaghetti. Place a short piece in the inlet of the gas block, turned upside down. Slide the gb on the barrel and turn upright. The spaghetti will drop into the barrel when it's lined up with port. You can use a cleaning rod to break that and drop it from the barrel.

Either your gas block isnt aligned properly, or there is something blocking the port.

Last time I shot a blank was in Officer Candidate School. If I am not mistaken, the rifle will not cycle without blank firing adapter.

As @Mosinitis said blanks will not cycle the system without a blockage in the barrel. There is no pressure to force gas into the gas port and down the tube toward the bolt.

Some gas blocks don't index off the barrel shoulder, depends on gas block and how the barrel is machined. You can check for that by measuring a space to the gas hole on both parts before installing. If your gas block has a flat top surface, you can use a small lever on gas block and flat top of the receiver to align the gas block. You can also use a bore scope to check from inside the bore if the two holes are aligned. It's not too difficult, you just have to approach it methodically.

I built a 6.8 SPC and it had trouble cycling first rounds. It started running fine after a couple boxes of ammo. May need some breaking in?

You *might* be able to do it with canned air. Though I'd swab out the barrel after in case it deposits any moisture.

Try a flat Wire recoil spring
