US supported dictator Batista - who's been known to execute dissidents.
US mob ran all the beach resorts, casinos, hotel, most of the plantation (US assets)
Racial segregation was the norm - most Cubans couldn't enjoy the resources in their own country.
Cuban people were being exploited.
After Castro's Rev. - not perfect but:
Improvement in education, medicine and food
Racial segregation abolished
Cuban people had access to "some" of the resource on their island (US/mob assets nationalized)
US didn't like that. So we put up an embargo to isolate Cuba.
US attempted a CIA back invasion (bay of pigs). With multiple assassination attempts on Castro life
1980's Castro allowed (exiled) any Cubans that didn't like the conditions there to leave (he didn't kill them)
