I assumed he was looking for a carry permit, like the rest of the state gets. The permitting scheme is BS, making it damn near impossible in the city for a carry permit but allowing a residence permit is ridiculous. Might as well own a shotgun. Oh wait, I forgot you need to beg for permission to own them in the city too, right?
As much as I HATE NYC as a whole, they are treated more as second class citizens that the rest of us in the PRNY.

It's difficult to get a handgun/pistol permit in Manhattan/ NYC.
If you're an average joe citizen, do not expect to get a carry license in NYC ("carry" meaning having a firearm on your person when you leave the house/ apt.) NYC only issues CCW lic. to certain individuals depending on their occupation.
NYPD will assign you an investigator upon receipt of your application. You will be subject to an interview, fingerprinting and they will look into your history.
You (OP) said ... you went to "rehab and the hospital for my alcoholism several times throughout my life".
The application ask about hospitalization..? didn't you say you went to rehab & the "hospital" ^^.
As other's have stated, get caught lying on your appl. is automatic denial. imo, your chances of getting a license in Manhattan is very slim- none.

That statement right there scares me. I’d be more co Verne’s about an alcoholic handling a gun without alcohol. Not the best theory.

I guess you had a few beers and missed the joke. 0.08% is the legal limit for dui in NYS. I’m really not trying to be a jerk.

The reason I stayed that your chances are so low in my opinion is that you claim your alcoholism is well Documented. That would kill it for you. People lose permits for dui’s

No one ever mandated that I do anything. I went to rehab 3 times over the past 20 years at my own discretion and failed each time I went.

I just finished a classic martini. I like to make them at home occasionally. Had a bunch of Sam Adams and Brooklyn Lager this weekend for Sunmerslam and at Raw at Barclay (we went).
