Who has their bolt gun in a chassis system?

My rem 700 is sitting in an hs precision stock, but ive been wanting a chassis system for it for quite some time.

Unfortunately, a chassis is as much as a gun so its low on my priority list, but i still enjoy researching them. I really like the Remington RACS , and the CADEX strike, but they are too pricey so next choice would be the XLR Carbon chassis.

The Mod X by AB Arms looks like a decent one too. I dont care for the McRee style chassis though, and while I know its very popular i dont like the AICS system either.

Id like to hear pros and cons of different systems, and feel free to post up pics too.

They're nice but a hell of an investment for punching paper in NYS. Put your money into having the receiver professionally bedded and into good glass.

I had the AIcs and sold it to a member at the long range hunting forum. If I got a new one I would use the aics again but
I am quite happy with the aluminum beded polymer stock.
The main thing with an all aluminum chasis is understanding the internal inlet and magazine dimensions as not all
of them can work with the largest magazines the AI system has to offer. For example MDTs LA is limited to the shortest AICS
magazines of 3.715 so I could not use mine of 3.850
I think there are several benefits but also several drawbacks of a cold chasis.
In any case one should not worry about the type of chassis sooner than having a match grade barrel, trued receiver,
and chamber job properly done.
The choice of chasis or stock might not make a difference at all vs all other things that go into building a high precision
rifle.

Differences between one chassis and another are HUGE, you'd better get behind the particular chassis you're considering before making the purchase. Best overall chassis I've owned is an APO or Cadex, but both are obscenely priced relative to their peers, and only worth buying if you get a helluva deal IMO. AICS is right up there and well worth owning, but still a little pricey. McRees is solid value for the price, and tough to beat for the buck. Masterpiece Arms Lite looks a winner and has a lot of fans, but I've not hand my hands on one to offer an opinion. With all that said, I still find myself gravitating towards an A5 as the stock I'm most comfortable with, but that's just me. Chassis offers more versatility for different body types being able to use the same platform without modification, but a properly fitted bedded fiberglass stock is still the gold standard IMO.

These are my complaints with many chasis:
- They have sharp angles and cuts that catch everywhere. not at the bench but if you are in a practical match running between stages they can be a
royal PITA.
- Round tubes are not very stable on a barricade. Any flat/er base or even a classic flatter stock is better. They also need a barricade stop so you don't end
up smashing the magazine.
- Some they are cut with too many appendixes and a stock works pretty much like a very large diapason. Perhaps this is the advantage of a large injected
A5 or manners ..or even a B&C medalist ... they absorb (dampen) the harmonics a lot better. Perhaps this is an advantage of the AICS too whit the large
mass and mixture of polymer, skins and metal.
- With pistol grips thumb support and transition from trigger to bolt (action) might not be as natural as some target stocks where the grip is higher up and
extended. More a personal preference too. I could probably get more confortable but some classic target or varmint stocks are designed in that premise
for soft transition at the grip. (more classic shallow angle w/o being too shallow)
- They are darn cold in the winter. the whole thing is frozen in subzero so for me there is no cozy feeling with them vs. a more classic chasis. The ones with skins
like the AICS have an advantage here.
- Having monolithic AR-like rails in aluminum is a bad idea IMO. If you put enough torque lets say some extra weight shooting downhill you might put some strain in the piece above the action. After all most actions are designed for 4 small screws and the gold standard here is a bedded steel base. If you need forward optics
look for the options but w/o touching nor interfering with the main base. A couple of years ago we did a test on a bench using the tripod and we were able
to move a micrometer a couple of thousands just by applying pressure in the tubular hand-guard. Same problem with not bedded bases and also the ARs with
bases riding over the hand-guard that is even worse.
- I guess there are many inlet designs and formulas but in the end there is no fit like a nicely bedded stock.

They are cool and all that but given the performance of other time tested and battle tested stocks are they really needed?

Of course there are some benefits but to me the real benefit of a radical chasis would be a modular design in a new totally new platform that is
versatile with multiple magazine systems and configurations including quick swap barrel system and guaranteed return to zero.

I have an XLR industries evolution, it's nice. But to be honest I kinda regret buying it. There's nothing wrong with it and it functions perfectly, I just feel kinda stupid for buying something I really don't need. @meketrefe is right your better off putting the money into into other things on the rifle first. Don't be stupid like me.
