I'm leaning towards adjustable then. I like that the Mossberg can be adjusted down to 2 lbs.
My neighbor bought the Savage Axis in 308 about the same time I bought a Ruger American 308. He has had an issue since the day he bought it where the recoil unlocks the mag, and it drops just enough that it won't pick up another round. He told savage about it and they sent him another mag, but it does the same ting. He was able to add a small metal shim to the tang to stop this, but you shouldn't have to do that with a new rifle.
I on the other hand have no complaints about the Ruger American. For the price, you cant beat it. For around 500 I got the rifle along with a Nikon 3-9X40 scope. No issues with either one.

Not fun to carry hunting!
Quite honestly, I don't know the difference. I'm new to this. I basically want something accurate enough to be used at distances and rugged enough that it doesn't have to be babied.Savage axis shouldn't be compared to the 110. Two different minders when designing and making the rifles. Now in regards to what twisted said. That is really disappointing I believe the two rifles are on the same playing field. For me being a savage fan it's disheartening to hear.
As to the OP I think one of the main problems is you've labeled a very broad stroke of the role the rifle wants to play. I believe in hunting rifles and bench rifles are different in nature. This isn't an absolute but hold true most of the time.it's a trade off of features to use a hunting rifle as a target gun and vise versa.
The only reason I suggested the RPR was that he said he did not hunt. You are right though.
I shot my buddies 10-22 with a 2 pound trigger and had less muzzle movement. Why a 2 pound trigger? If it's a field rifle I would not go that low.

Could you give us a better price range
Heres the one I got, couldnt be happier.5 to 6 hundred. But it looks like this can't be beat at the price it is at. It has gotten really good reviews from multiple sites.
Mossberg® Patriot .308 Win. Combo Bolt-Action Rifle with Scope | Academy
For a sub $500 gun its good. Mine only has 40 rounds through it so still breaking in but the bolt is very easy and smooth. How's your bolt, Criticalt? Smooth?
Have you handled one? Will, not to be a pest but the patriot has a few of flaws.
-Mossberg action is not in the same league as other discussed above.
-Finishing in mossberg is also inferior. Bluing and even marinecote used fails much faster than other makers.
-You will need to put two pillars and bed the stock. The wood is too soft for anything larger than the 223 and the action will bite hard into it and be less impervious to changes and and even loose up.
Opinions are given in good faith and from working closely with all these rifles.
Ask around to gunsmiths and armorers if you want.
Have you handled one?
I might buy this in case a grizzly escapes from the zoo or something.

Danmit Meke. Now I'm second guessing myself.I have worked on them including truing the
Action, rebarreling, and fixing other issues.
They are not horrible rifles but they are below
Average quality wise even for budget type.
Of course I shoot them to test the work.
They can take magnums but they will not produce top accuracy. As I said the actions are not as strong as other designs/makers.
Let me see if I have some pics.
