In the Sunday New York Times, writer Steven Johnson makes the case that the Blue States are the new Tea Party.

The argument goes like this: People who live in major coastal cities tend to pay more in federal taxes than their states get back in federal spending. They also tend to have unequal representation in Congress (and by extension, in the Electoral College) because of each state gets two senators, regardless of population. In short, they're getting a raw deal.

[T]he prevailing sense that the big cities are dependent on government bailouts and benefits, while the less dense regions live responsibly. ... bears no resemblance to the current economic map of the United States, where the major cities are now overwhelmingly the engines of economic growth and wealth creation — and also tax revenue.

If you look at pure dollars, then, yeah, big cities tend to pay in more than what they get. Economies of scale and all.

However, urban centers don't do well without rural areas. Where does their garbage go? Where do they go on vacation? Do they really want a nuclear power station in Times Square? Where do they think their food comes from?

Didn't know i was privileged to live in the sticks. Thanks, libs! If NYC would like to secede and keep their tax dollars i would be more than happy to sign their petition. I wouldn't mind paying higher taxes if that meant cleansing NY of the liberal sewage coming out of the city.

And might i add that in exchange for all the taxes they pay, they get to lead the whole state around by our nose and impose their socialist agenda on an otherwise red state.

Electors are chosen by both the number of Senators as well as Representatives. The larger the State and its' population decides the number that go to Washington to serve the people. That is why the Liberal cesspool of California has so many!

Traditional American values of hard work, grit, self-reliance, and individual charity along with its culture of Patriotism, law and order, and community have for the past 8 years (really longer but shooting up to warp speed since Obama took office) been under assault by an elitist class of politicians and big corporations who are pushing an open borders, one world culture, one world government mentality (and eventually model). This elitist group preaches values of fairness, social justice (everyone gets a trophy) and redistribution of wealth and a culture that seeks to end national, religious, and ethnic identity in order to replace it with a big brother statist model. Serve and state and the state will serve you (except it never really does). This allows them to control people and the entire financial sector which is really their end game.

I was not voting because I was worried that more tax dollars were going to pay for upkeep of the Brooklyn Bridge and not the culvert on my little rural road. I was voting because my traditional American values are being dragged through the mud at every turn whether that be in the latest hip hop music video, Hollywood movie, or on the damn nightly news. Frankly, I and millions like me are tired that simply because I choose to live where I live, espouse values that made this country great (and the reason why tens of millions of people are hopping borders and dodging customs to enter illegally every day I might add), and look the way I do (white people are the devil, right?) I am suddenly lumped into a pool of uneducated racist, xenophobic, gun loving, bitter clinging basket of deploreables (guilty as charged by the way). I'm convinced that statement there about the "basket of deploreables" cost Hillary the election, even more so than her emails and other scandals by the way. This is the reason why the country voted for Trump.

Liberals are always talking about values and fairness and decency. Well there are many definitions of this and I think the rural population of this country spoke with a mighty voice on election night. Their values, our values, the values that made this nation greatest of all nations throughout all time, American values will not go quietly into the night. Not yet anyway.

If the coastal elites, big government and crony capitalists, liberal progressive social justice warrior types and their friends at the New York Times can't figure that out, then they clearly have no understanding of why the election went the way it did. And our nation will forever remain divided.

Not only should there be term limits for Congress, but Welfare as well. Stop multi-generation family recipients. But that's a two way street, maybe Trump gets it, keep the jobs here, let the American worker, WORK rather than rely upon assistance. Does it matter if the Gov't is dolling out tax relief to keep jobs here, or pay handouts with no return on investment. Outsourcing is 20+ years solid though, so it will take a major paradigm shift for corporate America to do an about face on this issue. Next up will be then to produce workers from our education. System that can actually function in a stable high order state. Ummmmmm... But yeah, we the basket of deplorable priviliedged rural-ites will just have to suck it up for a while more until the country catches up with the Political Revolution which just slapped them all in the face. Can't believe how much media junk is still being published about what happened, what went wrong, etc., etc. Lmao... No worries, all this PC diversity, economic prosperity sharing , BLM, help the criminal migrant and whatnot movements will die down, everything takes a while to realize it's in its death throws... I believe welfare should be 1 step above poverty. I believe if you are on welfare that by the end of the month ya' should be wondering where your last couple of day's food will come from. I believe welfare recipients should have a co-payment for their medical needs, even if it's just $10/visit/prescription... let them smoke 1 less pack of cigarettes, or eat 1 less big mac. I believe there should not be any cell phones, free or otherwise. If ya' can afford a cell phone then ya' don't need welfare.
I believe welfare should result in a hardship to be on.

When did it become "right" for a working person to have to worry about all the above, while others living off of his dime cruise through life... AND they do it with a chip on their shoulder like we are the ones doing something wrong!!

Welfare costs the U.S. $1,086 BILLION/year (source: US Welfare Spending for 2017 - Charts). If we cut the benefits across the board by just 3%, it would result in a savings of $32.58 BILLION/year! Isn't it about time the "welfare slouches" take a bite out of the shit sandwich for once??
