Chris Christie Commutes Sentence for USMC War Vet Charged over Legally Owned Gun
On Friday Gov. Chris Christie (R) commuted the prison sentence for former Marine Sergeant Hisashi Pompey, arrested six years ago for possessing a legally owned gun that was unregistered in the state of New Jersey.
On April 13 Breitbart News reported that Pompey brought his handgun into New Jersey while visiting from Virginia. Following an altercation at a nightclub, one of Pompey’s friends retrieved the gun and was arrested. Pompey was also arrested because the gun was not registered in the state of New Jersey.



ABC 7 reported that Pompey did “three tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan for which he received medals for bravery.” He was a military police sergeant who now has a wife and young children at home. Until Christie intervened on Friday, Pompey was preparing to surrender to authorities for what would have been a minimum 36-month sentence for possession of an unregistered firearm.

Since moving to New Jersey, I've been paying more attention to their laws and Gov. Christie. I can assure you he only says this because he knows he can't actually DO anything because of the Democratic legislature. The few things he can change on his own, he hasn't. He's a POS who talks out of both sides of his mouth.

The "unregistered" part of the article isn't correct. You can have an unregistered gun in NJ and not be breaking the law, the crime was carrying the gun without a concealed carry permit, which NJ (for all intents and purposes) doesn't issue. He thought he'd be covered as MP, but NJ didn't recognize military as LEO at the time of his arrest.

It's not like he was driving through and was stopped and subsequently arrested. So I'm really not sure why there's hostility towards the fat bastard because all he did was give the guy a break, so no time will be served. I think that's a major break in my opinion... No flaming. You're right. He should have known better, especially as an MP. No excuse for not having his weapon secured! And not having his weapon on his person only leads me to believe he knew he couldn't carry it.
