Other than the cool factor looks wise and the ability to have a long belt at a couple hundred rounds without reloading, I don't see the purpose in this.

You can do the same with mag changes on an AR. You might lose 5 or so seconds on reloads total but the rifle will be so much lighter and just as accurate equipped with a bipod.

I don't know? I'd rather have a smaller lighter rifle of the same caliber with a high capacity magazine.
Don't get me wrong, stuff like this is cool but also utterly pointless. Its a range whore. SAWs weigh what, 18 pounds? And they ark asking what 7k for one? No thanks. I've played with the real deal full auto version though, very nice gun.

I don't know about the SAW, but I would damn sure buy one of the semi auto MG-42s! I don't care how heavy or pointless it is. Hell, a 200 mph car is pointless too but still fun.

A semi auto M249 (MG-42) is like having a 200 mph car with a 55 mph speed governor on it, LAME!

In the military, they call these guns "Pigs" for a reason. Most soldiers smiles drop when they are told they are now the new Saw, M60, or 240 gunner.
They are heavy, unwieldy, difficult to clean and uncomfortable. That belt has to be cut down to 50 rounds or else you will trip over it and even then it dangles The Saw does have a box on it though to keep the belt in one place but you still cut the rounds due to weight.
Shouldering it for extended periods is impossible unless you are corn fed.
And that BS you see in the movies with guys wearing belts of ammo around their necks is rarely done due to comfort.
So this civilian version gives you all the negatives without the positive of automatic fire which in itself is pretty much useless except for suppression.
This is a neutered toy for someone who's never fired one kind of like how we view straight pull AR's.

Prefered method of ammo carry was the 100 round belt in a soft pac case, originally sourced from Israeli supplies. I actually was to be my squads saw gunner (that's how soliders refer to the m249, just "saw") and I was cool with it. And I did go around with a belt wrapped around my shoulders for all of 1 hour. The bullet tips poke the shit out of your neck. I didn't make it to the deployment though so I have no combat experience with the saw. I did do some shoulder fire with it. Its possible in bursts but your arms tire out after a few hoists from ready postion to shoulder.

Thankfully we are all entitled to our opinions. I would love to have the full auto MG-42, but you bet I would still enjoy a semi-auto. If I bought one, I wouldn't be humping it around like a soldier or any of that. It would just be neat to have. I am sure all of us own stuff others would cast a questioning eye on, and who cares as long as the person who owns it enjoys it.
It'd make a good bench gun. Even firing open bolt the saw is pretty accurate.

My cousin did carry the SAW in Afghanistan and found out that you attract a lot of attention in addition to lugging around a heavy as shit rifle and it's ammunition.
