CMP gets 100,000 repatriated Garands

CMP is getting 100,000 M1 Garands returned to U.S. from Philippines and Turkey. Also M1911's.
They were expected to run out of Garands in a few years.

The prices are always lower then what you would pay anywhere else. I guesstimate 30-50% lower.
BTW, unless they changed the law, you don't have to register Garands bought through CMP in NYC. There was a specific exclusion put into law.

Just curious what you think the 1911’s will go for? I’ve heard around $1,000 and that’s not worth it to me. I know the garands go for about $700-$100 from what I have seen.

There is no way I would pay $1000.00 for a surplus 1911! I would make a bow out of a tree in the back forty first. $350-$400 maybe. Seen too many of them that were rattletraps.

I have no idea. It will depend on the condition and how collectible it is. Vintage firearms have their following. If its not for you, doesn't mean it's not worth the money. People will buy them, you can count on that.

I can see a WWII vintage 1911 in nice shape going for $1000. A plane jane post Korea in serviceable well used condition will be closer to $500 (my guesses).

I have a Grande and love it. Had for quite some time now. Shoots great and I paid $800 yrs ago.
I heard these guys are getting 13 truck loads.

You can figure they will be mixmasters as far as parts go. One can only guess to as many time they have been rebuilt by the depots. But they will most likely go for 1k for rack grade and higher for service or collector. I cannot buy one, I would change parts, rebuild it and shoot it so, I would be destroying any historical value it would have had. I would like to get a slide if they are going to part out some of them.

I have heard around $1000 for basic pistols myself. I'm sure there will be some pristine ones and those will go to members and straight to Auction ! I'm kinda interested in the 1911s but more interested in the M1s ! I have a couple M1s already but always looking for more,,LOL Just my thang I guess !!!

from what i know of CMP .. i think they check every gun out and where to put it .. on the low cost shelf or the 1000.00 shelf .. the guys n gals in CMP shoots comps i'm sure would be screaming if a piece of junk was on the top shelf ..

if your a comp shooter in CMP you want the best .. just to have one for fun get the lower shelf ..

Eligibility Requirements - Civilian Marksmanship Program

No real hoops to jump through. Join a veteran organization and you are done. But you don't have to do that if you read the affiliation paragraph.

I walked in with my retired ID and had no issues buying my first Garand.

Rather invest $500 in a NEW Auto-Ordnance.

At this point i'm not interested in reging a pistol. Wish I did long ago.
