Interesting idea, hopefully Collins will be able to get it on the table.
With how little movement H.R. 38 has gotten (up to 207 cosponsors as of 7-31-17) I highly doubt this will go anywhere. Not to mention no one in the house or Senate actually want to do anything. But this would be cool if it did get some momentum

Where was this type of work in the last 4 years since the safe act was passed.
Or even better yet, where was all this "im so pro 2A for new york" between 2004 and 2013 when there was the modified Clinton assault weapons ban. (Oh cool some shit was grandfathered in so meh we as new Yorkers will just deal with it, but oh no now we can't have our grandfathered stuff or rifles set up kinda how we want them so now let's pretend we have been fed up)
Oh or even better where were then they for New York's ban on NFA items and the Sullivan Act. That's been on the books since 1911, but haven't heard of any of them trying to get that off the books

There are 5 month left in the year and he is just now going to try and introduce a bill that is (as I've read it would be amazing if passed) so over the top he knows it won't go anywhere but can be used for when he's out stumping to try and get gun votes

I'll take some pro 2A grandstanding, even if they dont make any progress. In the very least, it sends the message that pro 2A is a good thing.
EVEN IF IT IS just grandstanding, it is the kind of grandstanding we need.
No I get that and agree to a point. But if they are going to do something don't make it so obvious, hell even make it something a bit over the top but also still a long shot to have some movement.

The only legislation they need is a budget appropriation for the DOJ to establish an office SPECIFICALLY to go after states who violate the 2A IMHO.....
Get half a dozen DOJ lawyers who's full time job is defending the 2A, and give them a budget for depositions and such and we'd be set....

A Federal solution to SAFE will do nothing. We already have a Federal statute, in the Second Amendment. It is not enforced federally, and with the current trend of states just doing what they want (see SAFE, several states non-cooperation with ICE, and so on), I suspect that, like Cuomo's recent signing of something allowing rifle hunting, this is a bone thrown to the gun owners prior to election season.
