One of the major problems with smart guns and their development is the consumer. How many consumers will buy this? None that I know.
The next major problem is reliability. Once the police and military have been issued and use them (exclusively) for 10 years I may let you talk to me about smart guns.
3rd Hackable, non EMP proof, 3rd party disabler, yeah that is not something I want in a firearm.
4th Cost, this is like investing in Solyndra or Enron not something worth your money.
5th global warming is going to kill us before this tech is perfected.
