For anyone not interested in reading it, it basically says that yes the tool used was developed by a Ukrainian hacker and is available for download to literally any person with an Internet connection, and the ip addresses used in the attack are being used to attack random websites all over the world, still, and were hosted in countries all over the world. There is zero actual evidence of Russian involvement.

There are hackers in Russia who attack US computers. My website gets a lot of traffic from Eastern Europe and the Third World. It doesn't mean that the Russian government was behind any of this, only that the hackers operated out of Russia. Maybe the Russian government looked but there was nothing to exploit.
We already know our NSA spies on everybody foreign and domestic. We're the very best at it too! Their servers require the power of a city to run.
Also every other country is spying on each other. We all know this and that's why they have security protocols. So NOT putting your private server in your bathroom (Hillary) or falling for a spoof email (Podesta) is elementary statecraft.

To say I "read" it would be a stretch - thus the post. I understood the bottom line, but not the path there.
I know little, and understand less, about how the server-based interwebz works.

I don't know nearly enough about current computer security to have an informed opinion, but if the Russians are behind the release of the 'Podesta e-mails', all they did was deliver on the Democrat's supposed calls for transparency.
I agree with several "right-wing" sites that state the Democrats are only upset because it exposed their corruption during the election. IMO there was no where near enough outrage in the (mostly leftist) media. Debate questions early, advance copies of articles and allowing changes to be made, etc etc..
Hopefully the Trump Administration won't let all this slide.

A lot of the emails that were released , were Allegedly done by US intell, via "'lost hacked stolen" info, fed to wikileaks or in other words an untraceable leak used to protect the source of the leaks . and who better than Russia?
Even assuming that the emails were hacked and leaked by Russia. It was the content of the emails more than the fact of leaking that lost the election for Clinton. Sometimes Im thinking they are looking for legal grounds to stop his inauguration .Power hungry people with no power.

I'm computer savvy, but not a network or security guy. As for the article saying if there is evidence the NSA would have it, that's true--and they might. If they do they may not release what they have.
As for IP addresses, though, faking those is child's play. I often surf the net through a vpn. If I were commit nefarious activity (not why I use a vpn--even corporations require this of remote employees) I would run my activity through an IP address from a non-friendly nation such as Russia. Non-friendly meaning if the authorities wanted to trace back through that IP to me I would make sure it's through a nation that is difficult for them to do so through...hmm, let's see...such as Russia. Anybody can pay a few dollars a month to buy a VPN account and run their internet activity through an IP of a geography of their choosing.

Shit, I use a VPN to access this site, and I have a host on OVH (one of the hosting sites mentioned by DHS). Does that mean I hacked the DNC? Does that mean I'm Russian?
After reading the DHS materials, I don't think they know squat, or are at least not saying anything that says they know squat.
What I do know is that there are a lot of dumb shits in politics, like Podesto who click on crap not knowing what it is.

A few caveats:
There are multiple methods to make yourself look like you are anywhere in the world, it's not hard, and often free or cheap.
IF the Russians did this, no one would know, or at least it wouldn't be this easy to pin on them.
The claim of 17 Intel agencies claiming it was the Russians was false.
All modernized nations have a military arm that is dedicated to Cyber Warfare, China being the largest, we use the Air Force.
China actually hacked OPM, and stole information about people with clearances, including Top Secret. That means me, my wife and anyone on my clearance forms' information was also (possible) stolen. I didn't see an expulsion or removal of "diplomats" when that occurred.
Voting machines weren't hacked, just some email accounts. Information was released, it hurt a party, therefore it must have been the boogey man du jour. That portion is all politics because that same party believes that they lost BECAUSE of those emails.
Honestly, this could have been anyone. Guccifer 3.0, the NSA, the CIA, anyone that wanted to put a hurt on the Clintons, the Dems or the Clinton Foundation. we won't ever know, but I would bet it was NOT an actual NATION STATE.

Over the weekend we noted that the Washington Post was caught spreading "fake news" about an alleged attempt by "Russian hackers" to take over a Vermont Utility (see "Washington Post Caught Spreading More Fake News About 'Russian Hackers'"). Within hours of reporting that the "Russian hackers" had gained access to the electrical grid, the Burlington Electric Department in Vermont had to issue a statement confirming that the provocative Wapo story simply wasn't true and that a laptop found to be infected with malware was never actually connected to the grid. An embarrassed Wapo was subsequently forced to change it's sensationalized headline and publish a retraction.

I am no computer expert. Based on what I read, Podesta himself is to blame for falling for a rudimentary phishing attack in which he responded to an email asking to confirm his password. I suppose that could technically qualify as a hack, but it also is just plain stupid security in this day and age.
Of course the russians are attempting to hack our computer systems all the time - military, political, infrastructure. I assume we do the same thing to them. And to China, North Korea and probably our allies as well.
What is curious is the democrats have not (to my knowledge) denied the veracity of the emails. This is interesting because the russians are experts at disinformation and could easily have slipped a number of fake emails in with the thousands of legitimate ones. I guess the democrats have taken the position of not responding at all since admitting one of them was a fake would require admitting which ones were true. I would imagine they don't want to get backed into that position so they make no comment at all.

My guess is less than 1% of the voters could tell you what were in the emails. Ramping up cold war era diplomatic relations based on the so called russian hack is irresponsible.
