(CONFLICTED CARD GAME) Prepping food for thought

I bought the Conflicted card game on Amazon, its a bunch of questions you ask your pals around a camp fire to secretly test where their mindset is in regards to SHTF. Most of the questions are after the SHTF event has occurred.

Card 2 (1 was an intro to the game) :

You have been approached by a post apocalyptic community which is very well known and respected, and they invited you to join them. Food, water and comfort awaits you and your family, however there is only room for you and your family. Your buddies and their families depend on you and your skills, but the life you all live now is full of every kind of struggle. Would you join the community for the sake of your family and leave your buddies or would you stay with your friends and continue to make your family suffer? Why?

I would thank them for their invitation and remind them that me and mine have been hardened to a rugged existence, if it comes to a matter of our survival depending on what they have, they should watch their back.

A very well known and respected group would not be stupid enough to take in more people voluntarily. I'd find it difficult to believe that any successful group would risk their own survival, if it's working and stable. There are no rules and laws anymore, it's a human wild civilization at that point. You have to steal and kill for survival. Morals and kind gestures are optional after survival needs, but may get you, your family, and your friends killed. Who's to say that one of your buddies isn't waiting for the right time to steal everything everyone in your current group has and run off? They know what's limited when they're reliant, maybe they're just taking advantage and don't even need your help. Everything is thrown out the window. It's not going to be a peaceful environment anymore. Just like wildlife survival isn't at all peaceful. These trivia hollywood zombie scenarios are just that, hollywood based entertainment. It's not fun, it's more like preparing for one of the worst environments you'll ever face.

I think i would stick with a known quantity, my friends and families.
lots of great skills and manpower.
A mechanic and engineer, a Doctor, and contractor with a bunch of boys (manual labor) all good shooters and multiple hunting cabins.
we have all known one another since childhood or at least college. we have camped, hunted and traveled the world together.
I love these guys, more than my own real brothers! (dont tell my parents!)

Exactly. People you can trust are in far shorter supply in a situation like that. TRUST is key.

I agree however the card said "You have been approached by a post apocalyptic community which is very well known and respected, and they invited you to join them." A well organized group would know when they need to replenish skill and labor based on looses or a weak point so it is possible to be approached. I would think they would have made some kind of evaluation before making the offer.

For me, I would have to evaluate the situation at the time. Who are my friends and how good? How bad are we suffering? Is my family in more danger or suffering to the point of dangerous more with one group than the other? What are surrounding dynamics (things like, the community is in danger of a large known threat to the north but moving with your group to the south which is believed to be livable would keep you safer.) How do I see having chosen each option being in a month, 3 months, 6 months? How are supplies and will the group or community be able to keep replenishing them? But above all else, can the community make a good pizza? Because after a year or more living that life, I think the offer of fresh, hot pizza would win me over. Add in a cold beer and I am there.

Personal well-being is one thing. Tell me a guy and his wife who genuinely believe the veracity of the offer and has a couple of young kids short on food. They'll join the group. Principles are easy when times are easy.

I think in a safe secure comfortable world, the answer is easy.

Looking into the eyes of your starving kid and wife after the worst year of your life....is more difficult.

I like to think I know how I would answer, but hopefully I never have to find out.

Considering you don't know their fates or the intentions of this other group, I say the answer is clear. Stick with those you can trust.

I don't think you can say with 100% certainty right now. I'd like to say that I'd stick with all my friends, but I have more allegiance to my immediate family than to friends. Sorry guys. It's really going to depend on the situation. How bad are we struggling? How nice will we have it? What will happen to the group of friends?

A very well known and respected community is not going to give you a choice like that. If they need you, they can accommodate your friends.

You have the bargaining power at that point.

I have put a bit of thought into this. Trust. Too me, that is the number one issue. If I am with a group of close friends and comrades, I have know them for a while. I have trained with them. They are my family. Family means more than blood relatives. I will stay with my group, If another group invites me in, I have something they need or want. If they want me bad enough, they will take my entire group. If not, they can piss off.

I'd rather be with friends and extended family than be an outsider in a community. I know that my innner group would protect me to their death and I to mine, the "new" community could let me hang out to dry. Safety is paramount, especially in an unfamiliar situation.
