You answered your own question. They are not reasonable people. They are narrow minded bigots living in a bubble. It disgusts me that people are cheering this in the name of combatting "hate speech." I can't be believe how any reasonable person can't see things like this as a full frontal assault on freedom of speech.
Remind me when they violate the 1A then I'll care. Same as that gab thing that lets Nazis post about exterminating jews etc. Their platform, their rules. 1A provides speech protections from the govt. not private enterprise.
I personally don't have any interest in either of them, but to me the rights of private enterprise to set their own direction are the deciding factor.
We're getting down to the datacenter level now. AWS won't host them. This means for conservative outlets to exist, they would have to build their own datacenter.
Also to be clear, I'm not saying Facebook shouldn't be able to do what it wants. But when we get down to the datacenter level? I'm not so sure. It's a non-trivial task to build out an entire datacenter. If datacenters stop hosting speech they don't like, that's going to set back free speech for decades till a network big enough is even remotely viable for conservatives.
Network traffic is a separate issue. Still routing is such that this isn't a real issue from my understanding. There are multiple routes and if one fails the traffic will be re-routed to other network carriers. What happens when Level 3 won't carrying the network traffic from that datacenter? Does that mean conservatives will have to lay their own fiber across the country? Their own international fiber?
And that's assuming telecom companies like Level 3 will even take the traffic.
And where does that leave us? With two internets, and people not talking to each other? What use is that for free speech? You see the danger we've brought upon ourselves whereby the entire apparatus to aid in free speech is controlled by something exempt from it, right?
As much as I'm pro-private industry, there needs to be a serious rethink about 1A with regard to the internet. Otherwise we're going to have some serious issues over time.
You see what I'm getting at here, @SonOfSun ? There has to come a point at which we have to protect free speech in that technological process. Otherwise the entire concept of being on one "internet" goes away quick.

One data center not hosting your content isn't a blackout. You don't need to build your own, there are hundreds/thousands of places to co-locate a server(s) around the globe. If not a single hosting provider on the planet will accept you, maybe it's not them that's the problem.....

I hear your argument, but the problem I have is still the private industry issue. The two choices we have to clear it up are put the government in control of the internet so it does fall under the 1A. Fuck no to that in my book. The second choice is to force a private entity to provide service (similar to that gay wedding case a while back). I'm also not a fan of that in any capacity.

100% agree here. Absolutely sad that the direction this is going.Regardless, we're not there, yet. It needs to be a wake up call for conservatives to build their own digital fortresses. Sort of like a political cold war on the internet, in which both are willing to cut the cord on speech. It's sad that this is the direction we're moving.

And thats how the free market should work.

Also, I've always been in favor of maintaining your own hardware and infrastructure where possible. It costs more, but the control you gain is worth it IMO.
I just sold my MegaCLI card recently and the old machine it was in. Wish I had it to play with again.
