Converting unSAFE mags to standard capacity

Magazines are sold in NY that were originally designed to hold over ten rounds but have been neutered to comply with the unSAFE act (eg 10/30 mags).

If, and only if, taken out of NYS; which mags lend themselves to being restored?

Two I can vouch for are:

Lancer L5 AWM, 10/30, 5.56x45
Metal countersunk rivet can be pried/pulled out. No spacer or mag block/limiter. Standard spring and baseplate. No epoxy used. Conversion does not appear to impair function or structure. Can be reinstalled to make 10/30 mag again.

FNH Scar 17S, 10/20, 7.62x51
Metal roll pin can be pushed out. Mag block/limiter is installed. Standard spring and baseplate. No epoxy used. Conversion does not appear to impair function or structure. Can be reinstalled to make 10/20 mag again.

Modified yes.
The Hex mags come factory 10 with different internals. No need to make permanent.

If you buy a hex new 10 round magazine it is no different from buying a 10 round pistol magazine. Now if your looking to buy a 30 round magazine hex or other a FFL would have to limit it to 10 rounds so it can't be readily converted to standard capacity.

What am I missing ? Magazines from 5 to 100 rounds are available in most states. If you were outside of a capacity limiting state why would you mess around changing anything ? The best magazine doesn't cost more than a box of quality ammo ..... why bother ?

If a NYer amasses numerous unSAFE mags and then moves out of state (or if WROL should come to pass) then the ability to convert might save money (or lives).

Guess I'd sell those mags before leaving. Brownells has any number of quality high caps mags under 20 bucks (less if you buy more), even a nice 60 round MagPul for 125 bucks. It works great, although it takes a while to load. Lotsa fun with a bump fire stock !

If a Lancer L5 AWM is $16 new and I turn around and sell it for $8 used, then move to a free state then buy it again for $16 then I have lost $8 that I could have saved by simply pulling out a rivet on the original mag. Multiply that by 100 or 200 mags and I hope you see the reasoning.

You still don't get it. It's a legal way to have 30 rd mags you putz. You buy Hex 10 rd magazines and if needed you have 30's with the swap of a spring and follower.

Another route is to buy 10 rd Socom magazines. Just get an upper too while you are at it for hunting big game.

That seems like an excessive ammount. I have 32 now and that almost seems excessive.
