Well, if they get a call to "investigate", by all means; investigate.

Simple....

Go to the house.

Knock on the door.

Introduce themselves.

Explain why they are there.

Tell the mother about the over reaching school personal.

Ask the mother if all is good in the home.

File the incident report with very basic information.

Nothing was found, no search was needed. Go onto the next call. No harm, no foul.

At that point, the mother knows what kind of assholes are running the school that her child resides at!

Police encounters for me have been generally positive. I've had several, most for very minor things.

I had one where it wasn't their fault or mine. It was my idiot friend who drank so much that it was coming out of his pores and made my whole car reek. They gave me some attitude about it, and I wasn't super pleased either, but of course I passed the sobriety test with flying colors. In the end everything was fine. They actually totally forgot to ticket me for what they pulled us over for in the first place, which was liscence plate bulbs that were out. I just replaced them on my own the next day. Could they have been nicer, sure. I could have been? Yep. I was also younger and dumber.

I mean, it used to be if you saw a kid with a bb gun, most of the time you figured the parents had taught then how to use it. Meaning, you know, the parents spend time with children. Meaning, the worst thing that might happen is they shot out an old window.

Could you sue the principal and teacher personally ?

Unlike police I don't believe they have qualified immunity.

The school or union would probably cover their legal costs, but not any settlement.
