I agree. Only problem areas should been shut down. There is no reason why Utah, Montana, or upstate New York should be shut down. Everything should have remained open with PPE usage as a precaution.

Correct. In the belly of the beast I know what’s happening. But to think that because you aren’t in the belly of the beast you have nothing to worry about is foolish. This thing spreads fast if it gets there. The point of all these measures are for it not to get there. They are overreaching though and I agree. Stores should not have been shut down. Only safety precautions should have been rendered. Just the same as we didn’t shut everything down when only China was infected. We waited for it to get here rather then overreacting and shutting every thing down then.

Oh it will definitely get worse everywhere when the restrictions are eased. A vaccine is the only way forward that doesn't come with a lot more suffering and death.

As to the question why they overacted? Well, lots of reason. Political of course. And also for the ignorant who would refuse to take precautions and puff their chests out challenging others in stores to do something about it. So they used fire on an anthill rather than normal methods to help prevent the spread and minimize infection due to those ignorant chest puffers.
Because all it takes someone like me in the belly of the beast who doesn’t want the government to tell me to wear a mask to go to a non affected area and infect another chest puffer who will walk around home depot touching everything and infecting others causing others that are susceptible to complications getting it and overwhelming their hospitals.

No, you are confusing what is good for an individual with what is good for society.
It is a very good idea for an individual to take precautions. It does no good for society.
Think of it this way, if you manage to avoid infected by "social distancing" that just means someone else needs to "take your place" in the herd immunity lottery.

Your precautions probably prevented you from getting it. But if everyone in your office took them your odds of getting it would actually go up.
Think of it like this, if 90% of the people in your office were going to catch it before the herd immunity kicks in that # won't change, but the 10% who avoid it will be the most careful 10%. Your careless coworkers basically volunteered to take the hit so you could avoid it.
If they were even *more* careful than you, you would eventually get it instead of them.
People die for many things, alot more then this! Cancer rates I believe killed last year some 600,000 alone. Does the government look into why and shut it down? Cigarettes for example? Drunk driving deaths? .Gov hasn't shut down the bars or made it harder to access alchohol. But to destroy the economy and people's livelihoods like they are is testament to another agenda.

Those numbers are BS. Nobody here on this forum has ever known anyone to die of the flu alone. Those are people that died of other causes that caught the flu on to what they had. The difference here with this Covid thing is that it’s killing people with no underlying conditions that would not die of the flu along with those that have underlying conditions.
My parents in their 80’s have caught the regular flu multiple times. This would probably kill them however or at the very least put them in an ICU.
The regular flu would not have killed almost a hundred of my fellow coworkers in a matter of month.

Of the flu alone? Very rare. Almost nonexistent. That’s not the case with this Covid though. Like I said, “I know of 3 that have.” All between the ages of 40 and 55. None obese. 2 with a slight gut like me and one skinny indian dude. None had cancer or aids or COPD or anything out of the ordinary. All worked the train yards which is an active job that requires physical labor. One health nut was on an induced coma and on a ventilator. He’s out of the coma but still on the ventilator.
