What if your job meant that you had to go arrest a guy who just wanted to live off the grid on his own land? What if that guy was a veteran? What if his only crime was refusing a service that he was supposed to pay for, like public water or utilities?

Is it actually acceptable to go to his place, kidnap him, and hold him against his will for that?

If YOU are the person who takes any of those actions, are you to blame if you’re “just doing your job?”

Meet Tyler Truitt
Tyler Truitt is a veteran who owns two acres of land in Madison County, Alabama. He and his girlfriend live off-grid. They have a clean, well-cared-for home with solar panels and a rainwater collection system. They don’t have loud parties, deal drugs, or do anything else that could be deemed anti-social.

Well, except refusing to tie into the grid.

I guess this means they should arrest all of the homeless who live on the streets and refuse to go to a shelter. Its dangerous. Arresting them would be for their own good. They are in effect, living off the grid as well.

Yeah, this f'd up big time. I know of houses that are in such horrible shape and yet no one comes and arrests the people who live there claiming health danger.

Just leave it all off. Use your own stuff. problem solved. They get to charge you a minor amount, but that no problem

Thats exactly what I plan to do someday. Go full solar with batteries, Im going to go grid tie-in, but the main breaker is going to be turned off.

Im going to consult a drill guy and ask about a well that runs off the solar.

I already know this is doable. I just have to get the numbers together

Minimum fee from the electric company is around $50 a month. A person shouldn't have to pay anything for a service they do not use. For myself, yes, I would want the hookup in the event I needed it but that should be my choice. Government cramming anything down the people's throat is wrong. Even worse if there is a fee involved.

the systems owned by the big corporations that pay for their campaigns and might even start to charge you for g

This is happening in Europe and is creating outrage in some countries as we were supposed to be migrating
to sustainable life styles right? This is where we need to take bipartisan approach with the greens and fight
this tooth and nail.

If you demonstrate you can be self sufficient and also don't pollute with your water should not those behaviors
be supported and promoted? Isn't this the right thing to do for your country and the environment anyway?

This is the biggest danger we face. Gun control is just another aspect of total control.

Monitor how much electricity you consume? ,,,If you're growing weed? Other?

The timeline is bad.
The case against him actually started in 2015 and went into 2016. He ended up being jailed for 10 days and placed on probation, which he promptly violated, landing him back in jail.

The City of Huntsville responded, indicating that it wasn't his off-grid lifestyle that got him in trouble, but his failure to adhere to health code (no sanitation) and zoning code (having a mobile home on a lot inside the city limits but not in a trailer park)
