Yea I guess if you want to find a way to nit pick a way to call or make it abuse of the system then I guess YOU could call it that. Yes in our market , that covers all of WNY, most are back in days and some are back the same day. Now as far as waiting 6 weeks, don't you think those people would like to use that time to straighten out a problem with the ATF and FBI so that when their amendment comes through the problem is already taken care of? Remember I said the check is done with the intent of buying a firearm not just to see if they can pass the NICS check.

I've never thought any of what you are suggesting is fraudulent.

And in the markets where it's expected they will be back in a few days, not even improper.

All I said was that in *some* places in NY it would be abusing the system.

It's not a system I'm all that fond of anyway, so as far as I am concerned, abuse away.

But, it does seem like the guys who run it twice in those markets (if there are any) are making their own lives difficult by doing more work than they have to.

Good news! I just did my 2nd NICS check and I get to go get my gun later today. Want to hear the funniest shit about all of this PITA stuff? It's a Heritage Barkeep 22 lr with a 3" barrel. It's a fucking toy. Yup, a 22LR after all this.

I've purchased a few handguns from 3 shops in 2 counties. They've all worked like this (my permit is in Broome County):

Buy gun from the shop, get receipt
Go the Sheriff's office with receipt, pay $3 to have gun added to permit, get coupon to pick up gun.
Go back to the shop, give them the coupon, do NICS, get gun, go home and waste some ammo.

Been pretty quiet here from those that blasted me for doing things illegal, according to them, and was just wondering what those who criticized me have come up with after their research. I'd be interested in what you all came up with and I'm particularly interested in why there is a recertification line on the 4473.
If I'm wrong in anything I've previously stated, I will admit it, will you all do the same?

I think the fact that every county in NY has their own rules and their own process has most likely contributed to a lot of the confusion in this thread. I wouldn't read too much into it. It's possible for everyone to be right and everyone to be wrong at the same time with 52 different sets of rules.

That is true but a 4473 NICS check is a federal form and the 30 day wait is a state law and those are two rules that are uniform for everyone.

It's been some time now and Kristy said she was going to check with the ATF people she works closely with. I'm wondering what she found out.
