How worn does rifling have to be before it's illegal ?

I bet there is some overlap where there's enough to be legal but not enough to cause problems with your pattern.

Also, what twist rate is necessary ? I bet a 1" in 100' twist rate wouldn't affect your pattern at all. But you could still have full depth rifling....

I have a 1911 that the lands are worn almost totally gone, just because it's "worn" doesn't make it illegal.

I'm sure normal wear, even to the point of no rifling left, is no problem. But intentionally removing rifling is making it an AOW. Be easy to distinguish with a bore scope.

You can try putting out a bowl of flour mixed with some sort of plaster and a bowl of water next to it. Rats love to eat flour. I'm sure you get the idea. I had rats in my shed years ago. Old timer gave me the idea. Something ate it. Never saw rats again.

I have no problem with killing them with cruel methods. Bastards are getting in our insulation, sheds, chewing wires. I want them gone! I've thought about poison but if our Pit gets ahold of one he'd likely die also. He doesn't take to rats very well lol. Other issue is I don't want them to die inside the insulation under our trailer. The stink would be too much.

Popped another fat bastard with the rat shot, walked off, turned around and came out again. Stepped out and hit em again. Fucker ran off! 20 feet away! Pattern must be so bad they're only getting a few pellets.

10 minutes later I'm watching for movement, got a light set up to see them, about 40 feet away a big ass coyote strolls through the light past my truck. Won't ya know my AR isn't out there with me.

Ehh...coyotes in our yard all the time, only rats the seem to eat are the ones I shoot and throw out back. Our Pit kills more than they do, but he's getting old and lazy.

I'm really not sure, I've already killed some at this distance. Lucky vital hit with a pellet or two? I'm sure I'm getting good hits because one that ran off last week was blown sideways after the hit. I think he died later.
Maybe at 20' the LR shot just doesn't have enough ass after the rifling disrupting it for 16".


Bout ready to move the vehicles and bring out the 12g lol.

They are ment for close range, 5 yards and in. They can work petty well if close up. Even if you can shoot a tighter group you won't gane anything other then a few more hits. Perfectly legal to have no rifleing just make sure the barrel and oal are rignt.

garden guns have been made as long as rifled ones werd. I have a nice old Remington model 33 smoothbore.

I have 2 Rem Mod. 33's wish I can find a smooth bore barrel!
