CVA BP 50 cal .. never cleaned .. need help ..

I know they make a foaming cleaner. Maybe try a few rounds of that. Good luck and keeps us informed.

yeah i know there is lots of cleaners out there .. all i have on hand is Hopps #9 and soap n water ..
My father uses the foaming kind. He says it does a good job but I'm not very well versed to BP to know if it's true.

Make sure its unloaded before you start.
When I clean mine, I take the nipple off, take the stock off of the barrel, and put the breech end in a bucket. Then I'll pour boiling hot water from a tea kettle down the muzzle until there's enough water in the bucket to cover where the nipple screws in. Then I'll work the barrel with a brush or jag while the breech is submerged so it sucks water in and out through the hole. After that, a rinse with more boiling hot water. Then I'll swab the bore with Bore Butter.

I'd still try super hot water first. Its supposed to dissolve the harmful salts in the black powder residue. Ammonia might help too. It also works on cleaning some salts and metal oxidzes.

I don't know anything about inlines. He was probably using those modern pellets and they will rot a steel barrel pretty quick, probably stainless too. At this point I would try hot water and Dawn detergent suds up real well and soak it in that, then a good scrubbing with a quality copper bore brush. After that, see what you got and proceed.

Plug the breech, fill barrel with evapo-rust, let it sit for 24 hours. Pour out more sludge then you might think, then clean with hot water and soap, dry and oil it.

I had a similar situation with a CVA inline. Couldn't even see down the barrel. Used almost a whole can of the foaming bore cleaner and many, many patches.
