Dedicated ar22 builds, who has one?

Been researching this lately, and decided to go this route. Gonna do a new custom build, and will update this as parts come in, might take a bit of time.

I've noticed in recent years it's been tough finding 22lr parts in stock (mainly barrels and complete uppers) unless you're just going with the conversion and 5.56 barrel.

I have ordered almost everything already, and this is going to be a pricey build for a 22lr lol. Will update soon.

I already had a conversion also. Haven't even tried it yet, just knew I wouldn't be happy with it. I see all kinds of different accuracy reports in everything from 1/7 (which I have) to 1/9 twist. Some ok, and some horrendous with each twist rate. Now I'm not a very good shot, but I do want some consistency, so decided to spend some money.

Can't you take the conversion bolt and make it work with a dedicated 22lr barrel? It's probably just a clip or something holding the adaptor on.

Yes, just need to change out the 556 chamber adapter and swap it with a collar for the dedicated barrels.

Ordered my custom match barrel today. After some research the last couple weeks Beyer barrels consistently comes up as one of the top few.

Called him up to order a 16.5" lightweight bull barrel, and he happened to have one left finished in the shop, so he's going to send it out tomorrow, along with a cmmg collar adapter!

I have a Rick Kuehl .22 upper, which was the gold standard of 15 years ago. It’s a beautiful piece of work and I haven’t seen anything as nice since.

I was just searching those uppers. Looks like it uses the same bcg that I have. Mines a target master conversion, based on the ceiner design. I was a bit worried about compatability with cmmg and borebuddy parts, but here's somebody else' photo with the collar on, so apparently I'm in good shape there.

Also received my borebuddy parts. This "stimulus package" kit comes with everything borebuddy makes, aside from the auto sear trip (which I may also pick up just because).

With this kit I should be able to to dial in everything to run completely smooth and reliably for whichever ammo choice I choose. The damn kit costs as much as the conversion assembly though. I've seen multiple posts of people running these parts in full auto with 100% reliability.

Probably stick with cci standard velocity as that's what the Beyer barrel seems to like best from reports of about 1 moa.

So I'll have pretty much the same. Beyer's barrels are milled for the cmmg collar. (He's sending my barrel with it.) And I did also read that the finished install will be the same as a 14.5.

I only have two, Both CMMG 22LR barrels and bolt combos. One has a binary trigger and is a hoot to shoot. 25 round mag dump.

I have a dedicated build with a CMMG 20" 1/16 22lr barrel and the CMMG collar on the CMMB conversion bolt.. i love it!

Curious, which borebuddy parts?

I know off the bat I'll use the buffer plug, even though my bolt is already pretty tight in the upper. I'll also be using the firing pin, extractor with 500% spring, anti bounce bolt weight. I have different weight recoil springs that I won't touch for now.

Just waiting on the barrel now, noticed my card was charged today so it should be here soon. $318 shipped, and including the collar. Pretty good deal if you ask me for a match barrel and chamber considering the collar cost $50 of that. I'm actually glad now that that I couldn't find any cmmg uppers or barrels in stock.

As a side note- this is my pistol lower which I'm changing to a rifle. I didn't stake the castle nut, and used a bit of blue locktight on it instead. DON'T use locktight! For whatever reason, it wouldn't budge, and I ruined the pistol extension, and casle nut. Stripped the threads right off the tube.

Ok, problem number 2 today solved. I have an older Ciener/Atchissen type bolt. I wanted to replace the firing pin with borebuddy's enhanced firing pin. Cmmg must be using a different retaining pin than I have.

Here's my old firing pin. The retaining groove is bigger than what comes with the new firing pins.


After some time spent filing and fitting, the new one is finally installed and working as it should be.



Now on to the upgraded extractor and spring. Want to bet this will cause me a headache also!

Bolt all upgraded with borebuddy parts, went fairly smooth I suppose considering I wasn't sure they'd fit this older bolt.

It's all one piece, the collar will replace the whole front end.

Measured my height over bore at 2.5 today. Adjusted in strelok, and using cci standard velocity (which will shoot moa or better in this barrel) at a 50 yard zero.

Here's the reticle calibrated for 5.56 at 100 yard zero.

The nice thing is I'm nearly perfect at 25/50, and theres a 4 etched on reticle for marking 400yds which is my new 100 yd spot. The reticle will work perfectly for me.

Barrel removed, and awaiting it's replacement which will be here in a couple days. Decided I won't cerakote this as there's already enough money into it. It'll stay black.

Well can't even test yet, but it looks like I'm going to have some reliability issues. Lookout around the interwebs it appears that the low mass hammer, along with the spring in my timney trigger are going to cause some light strike issues. Grrr. Some people have gotten it working with some workarounds with certain ammo, but I want this to be 100% reliable, so I'm going to have to go with a different trigger.

Cmc 3.5 works from reviews, along with most two stage triggers, but I want to stay single stage. Maybe I'll pony up for a hiperfire hipertouch as they are a full power trigger that breaks as low as two pounds. Of course the cmc is half the price, and milspec is free. I'll make up my mind on this later.

Yeah I will, but have seen multiple users having trouble with the timney. Like you said though, maybe I'll get lucky with the combination of borebuddy's upgrades and such. I have a milspec to hold me over if it doesn't work, but I love the timney.
