Favorable as in the Democrats just give up? Fat chance. The government isn’t going to submit to the people. But assuming they did, our laws aren’t going away. California’s laws aren’t going to go away. NFA laws aren’t going to go away. NICS isn’t going away. It would just continue to be the way it is now until the next planned massed shooting.

I don't see a peaceful outcome. Many VA residents I talk to (about a dozen or so) are practialy spitting blood now. Now that Richmond itself has been declared gun free zone backed by state boys from throughout the state, something is going to happen. Standing down for Virginians is not their way.

NYers did comply. I mean just here on this very forum, look at all the people who build neutered AR pistols with glee and register them. Look at all the people who installed mag locks or build their rifles featureless. Look at all the people who aren’t going out to buy the newest AR in a standard configuration or buy the newest Bullpup rifle that they want. Look at all the people who want a compensator on their pistol who don’t get a proper one.

And finally look at all the people who didn’t register but hide them and still submit to NICS checks and ask for permission to carry a pistol for self defense. If they truly aren’t complying, then why are they obeying only some laws?

For example, NICS checks are going to be a huge infringement to only a small number of gun owners. So they pass that first without issue, but as time goes on they keep passing incrementally more restrictive laws.

We're at a point now where most gun owners are pissed off, but NY or VA, I just don't think people are going to die over any of these laws unless people's lives/loved ones are threatened. It takes a lot of principle and conviction to be "non-compliant" if the end result is death or serious prison time, ergo people hiding rifles in their closets.

That being said, there are lots of "non-compliant" people out there, AKA technical felons. I've met them in passing here and there over the years. Some of them were pro 2A patriots, some just didn't give a shit about the law, and others were actual criminals that really shouldn't have owned guns. Just because they aren't posting on a forum about what they do doesn't mean they don't exist, and sadly the pro 2A non-compliants are, in the eyes of NY, the same as the criminal group.

If you pass a NICS for a lower but then put a 12” upper and adjustable stock on it then by definition you aren’t complying and are breaking federal and NY state law. Conversely, you can’t go 20 over the speed limit and get pulled over and say “yeah but I was using my blinkers to change lanes!” and expect to be let go because you complied with some of the law. I’d argue most people break laws only because they are inconvenient to them.

Personally it’s not worth the risk to me, and while I have fond memories of NY, I also have a timeline and the finances to relocate wherever I’d like in the next 5 years. That being said I salute the people who have no intention of leaving and no intention of following these BS laws. I’m not gonna minimize them because they bought their last gun at an FFL.

No. They will hold back. But if the people decide to go killing politicians, many will get killed. Martial law will be declared and then things will go to shit. Realize that this is just Virginia. The government can put a state down real quick.

Here is some history they never taught you in school.
Every generation of soldiers has problems, but most haven’t left the military only to later be attacked by it. But that’s what happened to thousands of veterans who served in the trenches of World War I.

In 1932, 17,000 former soldiers marched on Washington, D.C. to demand wartime pay owed to them. The Great Depression ravaged the country, and a president took desperate measures to disperse the angry veterans.

The fight between veterans and the White House had been brewing for more than a decade. Since the Revolutionary War, American soldiers received a bonus for serving during wartime.

Basically, this was some extra cash to make up the difference in pay the soldiers would have made as civilians during the same period. But in 1917 and 1918, while American soldiers fought and died in Europe, the Woodrow Wilson administration increased government employees’ salaries to help compensate for a rising inflation rate. It didn’t increase soldiers’ pay.

When the troops returned home, they were angry. So the American Legion organized the vets and helped push bills through Congress legislating a commiserate increase in pay. Opponents of the payment called it a bonus. Veterans called it compensation.

Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange filed the brief in the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals as part of the lawsuit NYSRPA v. Cuomo, which was filed by individual gun owners and organizations challenging New York’s gun ban.
"This brief is about protecting the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens to bear arms in the defense of themselves and their families," Strange said.

"I and other attorneys general believe these fundamental rights deserve the highest protection and that New York’s gun ban is unconstitutional under principles the Supreme Court has already established," said Strange.
Alabama’s attorney general, the lead author of the bipartisan brief, was joined by attorneys general from Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
The brief urges the court to scrutinize New York’s ban of certain semiautomatic weapons. It also argues the ban is unconstitutional because the state has failed to show how the ban would increase public safety or decrease gun violence.

"Because New York’s law amounts to a categorical ban of firearms commonly used for lawful purposes by law-abiding citizens, this court should subject the law to strict scrutiny under its tiers of scrutiny framework," the brief states.
The SAFE Act "fails strict scrutiny" and the brief says studies show the "federal assault weapons ban had no measurable effect on gun violence, and police officers oppose such bans."
Furthermore, criminals will "continue to obtain weapons with the banned safety features, placing law-abiding citizens at risk."
The New York State Rifle and Pistol Association’s vice president of legislative and political affairs Jacob J. Rieper supported the brief.
"NYSRPA believes that the same standards of strict scrutiny currently applied to laws pertaining to the First Amendment should also be applied to laws related to the Second Amendment, and we are glad that these state attorneys general are standing with us," Rieper said in an emailed statement.
Stephen Aldstadt, president of the Shooters Committee on Political Education, highlighted the widespread nature of opposition to the bill.
"Not only do 52 of New York State’s 62 county legislatures oppose Andrew Cuomo’s NY SAFE Act, but now 22 other states have weighed in and filed a brief in federal court to challenge the constitutionality of this law," Alstadt said.
Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead (R.) on Tuesday directed the state attorney general to join in the lawsuit.
"This is another case where one state’s gun laws could have a negative impact on Second Amendment rights nationally and in Wyoming. These rights are fundamental to the people and critical to our way of life," Gov. Mead said in a prepared statement. "I will continue to protect our Second Amendment rights."
South Dakota’s Attorney General Marty J. Jackley in a release to the press yesterday noted that the types of weapons banned by the SAFE Act are commonly used while hunting.
"Hunting with semiautomatic firearms for pheasant, waterfowl, and big game is commonplace in South Dakota," Jackley said. "While the ban only applies to New York at this time, the federal court’s upholding of the gun ban sets a concerning precedent interpreting limitations on Second Amendment rights of all law-abiding citizens including here in South Dakota."
Montana Attorney General Tim Fox also issued a statement indicating the SAFE Act ban would impact law-abiding citizens.
"Semiautomatic firearms are perhaps the most commonly used firearm for self-defense," Fox said. "Excluding an entire class of firearms from law abiding citizens limits their ability to lawfully protect themselves, their families, and their homes. It would also impact law-abiding sportsmen and shooting enthusiasts, because semi-automatic rifles, handguns, and shotguns would not be available for their use either."

The more I ponder the mass demonstration being promoted by the Virginia Citizens Defense League for the annual Lobby Day at the Richmond Capitol, the more it looks like a disaster in the making. I wish it were otherwise, but I see many times more downside risk than possible upside benefit.

Even if Virginia Senate Bill 16 is passed, banning nearly all semi-automatic firearms, the new law will be challenged in court, and given the potential dire outcomes, the case will rapidly ascend to the SCOTUS. This process will take years, and Governor Ralph Northam and the Democrat majority in the legislature may be voted out in the meantime, and the law overturned. So why, before all that happens, go charging into Richmond in just a few weeks? Will rabidly anti-gun urban Democrats be convinced to change their minds because of a mass rally by their despised deplorable enemies? Not a chance. Instead, it will only harden their resolve. Now let’s look at the downside risks, which I have divided into overlapping scenarios, from best to worst case.

Scenario 1: Best Case

Even if nobody is seriously injured on January 20, some percentage of the Second Amendment crowd (or anti-gun trolls posing as such in order to discredit them) will show up wearing camouflage while waving long guns, Confederate battle flags, and, as in Charlottesville, even some Nazi swastika flags. No matter what the VCDL intends, this fringe element will become the national media image of the entire event. And trust me, these morons and bad actors will show up in Richmond. Believe it or not, there is actually a lunatic element that considers Charlottesville to have been a victory for the far right, “because now everybody knows we’re here to fight!” (The same could be said about Pickett’s Charge and Custer’s Last Stand. “Moral victories.” Yeah, right.)

These attention-seeking media whores and social-collapse “accelerationists” will never miss an opportunity to strut and preen for a national television audience. They will be in Richmond first, up front with their banners, and the mainstream media cameras will give them the national spotlight and face-time that they crave like needle junkies crave dope. I get the problem Bracken brings up, but its really nothing more than caving to the Heckler's Veto.

If the "fringe" are always and every time going make law-abiding Americans "look bad" in front of the cameras, and "smart" citizens should avoid that, then that amounts to the People ceding their Right to Assemble and to Seek a Redress from their government.

No one can ever protest or rally if we're going to say that some dirt bag or provocateur is going to make all American patriots look bad.

Martin Luther King (like him or hate him) and the civil rights movement had to beaten, fire-hosed, abused and even sometimes shot to hold their protests and gain any traction. It shouldn't be that way in a "nation of laws" where we have "guaranteed rights" that the government is supposed to protect, but there it is.

Backing down every time some wannabe fascist wants to betray our laws and our Rights has been going on now since the Woodrow Wilson administration, and the politicians have taken that weakness of the American People as a signal to expand government and put their boot on our necks ever since.

If the "fringe" are always and every time going make law-abiding Americans "look bad" in front of the cameras, and "smart" citizens should avoid that, then that amounts to the People ceding their Right to Assemble and to Seek a Redress from their government.

No one can ever protest or rally if we're going to say that some dirt bag or provocateur is going to make all American patriots look bad.

Furthermore, "they" (the media, the leftists, the government hacks and corrupt politicians) already hate the deplorable, as in totally loath and despise with pure hatred.

Anyone who supports the Constitution, the BoR, the vision and and thoughtfulness of the Founders (regardless of the fact that they were not perfect people) are already Nazis, Racists, Bigots, and scum to be shoved out of society and purged from history.

I said in an earlier post that armed folks will not make it to the demonstration. . Matt explains this better than I ..
Some suggestions for those still planning to attend:

Do not wear camo, or bring long guns, not even in your vehicle. Expect to be pulled over by the VSP at highway off-ramps on the way into downtown Richmond for mandatory “safety checks,” where you will be asked about any firearms in your car or truck. The police will then ask to inspect them, and to see IDs from everybody with you. They will film you, and record all firearm serial numbers and identification information. You will be hassled and harassed if you refuse to cooperate. These “safety check” officers will not be in a good mood to hear lectures on the 4th Amendment. Depending on their orders, and your decisions, you may never even make it to the Capitol Square.

Expect to be directed by LE toward distant or inconvenient parking places. Downtown Richmond will be under heavy police control, and their directions will not be suggestions. Anticipate that the walking route from your parking place to Capitol Square will take you through hostile opponents from Antifa or anti-gun groups. If you encounter Antifas taunting you or making threats of violence, and you wind up pulling out a pistol to protect yourself, expect to be arrested and held with a very high bail. And remember what happened at Twin Peaks: once your pistol is out, LE snipers may have your head in their cross-hairs. Once ignited, this is an escalation dynamic that is very hard to control.

You are correct. But this needs to happen coast to coast ...... not one event at a time. We need to be organized. Way more than the left and those who wish us death. That is the number one problem of our down fall. The patriots .....the fudds....well at least the patriots.....organized. Its just like 1776 2.0 with a huge mix in of civil war. There is a smart way to stand up for your rights and a stupid way to stand up for your rights.

Organization is the only way to stand up for your rights. Unfortunately, we as a people are not organized and never will be.

The way this should go down is everyone stands up for their rights collectively. Simultaneously. Around every government building and police station. Not just in one place in Virginia as part of an unorganized mob where the government can control and herd the cattle.
