IMHO, Eisenhower was one of the best, if not the best, Presidents, which I base on his farewell address - he warned us - no one listened.
Those who did, like JFK were dealt with by the then burgeoning deep state.
Eisenhower warns not only about "the military-industrial complex", which many do know about, but also about...
"The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded.
Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite."

Originally it was the Military-Industrial-Congressional Complex. That's what he had in the first draft of his address. He knew that if they spread funding and manufacturing of military arms throughout the country no congressman or senator would want to defund the military because it would hurt their districts (and their chances for reelection). This only solidified the power of the military, oligarchic industrialists (the original 1%) and the intelligence community. And look where that's brought us today. Schools don't teach history anymore but when they did they often brought up Washington's Farewell Address, which was also important and very prescient to our times, but in my opinion, we should be studying Ike's just as much if not more.
I know a lot of leftists like to say that Eisenhower would be a liberal if he were around today because of his use of public dollars building infrastructure projects (Interstate System) and education (push for educating those in STEM subjects after Sputnik). I think Ike considered himself an American first and put party labels and ideology aside to do what was best for the country. I for one have no problem allocating tax dollars for legitimate infrastructure projects and for educating students in real subjects as opposed to the brainwashed gender and race studies which is all that we seem to do today.
