The reason is Cuomo and Co's unSAFE act. The reasoning is so unreasonable, it's a waste of time to talk about it. Just get the .50!!

You can own both the 357 and 44 mag Desert Eagle in NY. Just have to get the NY compliant L5 model. I've got both and they're great.

For some reason the safe act caps pistol weights at 50 oz if I’m not mistaken. The hell of I know why this is a rule.

The NY compliant L5’s come with a letter stating they’re only 49.6 ounces.
And no picture of the target he was shooting... Bet the house he missed!!! Maybe hit first shot... Maybe!
When was the last time you did any shooting? Because this very old video of yours is so much more entertaining than most of what else you post here. Personally I would like to see more .500 Magnum antics.

I see my somewhat polite entreaty for you to stop posting crap and produce something relevant and entertaining to a gun forum had gone unheeded.
In the original AW ban the 50oz weight restriction was clearly an attempt to ban things like rifle caliber pistols, specifically those with magazine wells outside the grip because they would default to two banned features and be therefore illegal for sale. This is why pre-SAFE you'd see a lot of AR pistols that were completely stripped down to bare essentials (no handguard, etc).
I wanted to note here that the 50oz thing was in the NY gun laws as a banned feature prior to the SAFE act. Almost all of the currently banned features were already there. What SAFE did was simply reduce the allowance of one banned feature to no banned features. So, prior to SAFE the DE was NY legal because the weight was it's single allowed banned feature, but a DE with a threaded barrel for example would not have been; while a less than 50oz pistol could have had a threaded barrel as it's one allowed banned feature.
I know some will say that this distinction makes no difference, but I think it does because a lot of people I see on the forums actually only started really caring when SAFE happened. That's great and all that people care now, though unfortunate that it had to happen that way, but the problem is that many of those people attribute things to SAFE that shouldn't be and get things about the laws wrong. That matters because if you're going to be with us in the fight, you have to first understand it and have the facts straight. We mock anti-gunners for their lack of knowledge (as we absolutely should), but if we're going to do that then we sure as hell better know the information ourselves.

There are full size DE eagles that are under 50oz and legal in NY state. I figured some members would have them by now as stated already. They actually look pretty badass with the machined out sections of the slide. Way cooler than a revolver.

The L5 is the .357mag and .44mag which is cool and all and comes in just under 50oz. But sadly if you want .50AE that is the L6 and it is at 55 or 56oz so no go in NY

I know 50AE sounds cool and all, but the 44 still gives crazy amount of bang while still being comfortable to shoot. 50AE crosses into novelty territory with the amount of recoil it generates.

CA has an approved list. You don't pony up the cash to pay for your new gun to be on the list? You can't sell it there until you do. The reason they can't get the new generation of Glocks.

New York laws allow for some wiggle room
California laws have it so Glock is still making Gen 3 guns (ie gen 3 glock 19 legal in California, gen 4 glock 19 not legal in California)

It’s because they require micro stamping now which no gun company is going to do. The list gets smaller every year because of this. There’s at least one big lawsuit going on for this currently.
That's partially true as of 2010, but only a small portion
California has required that the gun companies send them a test gun for their own set of drop tests and other safety tests. This has to be done for every model and version,
Example: Glock 17 Gen 3 Black, glock sends to California, California approves. Can now be sold in California to non LEO type or as they like to call us common folk "civilians"
Oh sweet look glock just came out with a Glock 17 Gen 3 but instead of black it's now also being offered in OD Green....... well until Glock sends California a test gun in that exact same configuration it is not on the approved list for sale

That's what I used this one word "partially" when I said you were correct. Shit prior to that magazine disconnects were reason enough for companies to tell California to duck off, before that it was loaded chamber indicators

Gotcha. The only upside is that if you already own these off list pistols outside of CA, you can sell to someone there or if you move there you can bring them as long as they're not AWs.

Yeah, I couldn't care less about that personally, but if you wanted a desert eagle handgun in NY state you'd have the ability to get one. Getting the largest caliber for the sake of getting the largest caliber to say that you have the largest caliber is one of those things I don't understand because I'm not that kind of guy. I think people should be able to have them of course if they want, but to complain that you still can't have the 50 action express because 44 magnum or something isn't good enough is not a complaint I care about. I think a lot of people want these things because of that fact alone, not because they even care about shooting it or what purpose it has, it's just gotta be 50 caliber or nothin' brah!
I mean or the fact that if I was going to go .357mag in an auto loader I would get a Coonan over a L5 and as for my comment all I said was the L5 was in .357 and .44 and are under the 50oz and the L6 which is 50ae sadly doesn't make the cut. Soooooo
