This type of thing will become increasingly common. I'd say we aren't far away from these types of features being a part of integrated electronic sights.

It would be cool if it could use some of the energy that pushes the slide back after a round has been fired so it wouldn’t require any batteries

Good red dot sights have 5-year batteries. I don't see why this couldn't be any different or couldn't work while off if the batteries died.

I like the concept. Pretty simple and innovative. I wonder if it physically detects the mag inserted vs just in proximity to a sensor. More info inf you get an FTF.

I agree. I can also see for high end sniper applications having drones(micro quiet one) taking weather and wind data at ranges. I also think you will start to see better battery electronic interfaces that give very long life to this equipment.
