Is this the one with the chained shackle?its been 6 yrs or so now .. a friend of my mom n dad gifted me there Car .. it needed some minor work but the ford dealer wanted to charge them lots of $$$ to fix .. so they just gifted it to me .. i don't think i paid any tax .. just the change of title and registration fee BS ..
I agree. If traded in you don’t pay the tax on the difference but if sold privately you paid the tax then the next registrant will pay the tax again. Also why are we being taxed on something that taxes were already paid on when bought new the first time?

Stop making sense.
On a NYS DMV Statement of Transaction (DTF-802), there's an option to receive a vehicle as a "gift", in this case a snowmobile. If the transaction is listed as a "gift", the seller has to complete Section 6 which asks if there were any services, debt, or property exchanged as a condition of said gift.
Question. If this was a pure gift of generosity, does the DMV make some sort of fair market value assumption and charge sales tax (yet again) for the transaction or is the net sales tax simply $0.00?
Any help / experience would be appreciated.
