Back in 1994, when Clinton's 'war on drugs' was running in high gear, ( if you remember, he promised to put 100,000 new officers on the streets to augment this 'war' on illegal drug users) -- well, the prisons were running out of room, to house these non-violent drug users, - so what did they do? -- They let out of prison, either paroled or put on probation, 134,000 violent sex offender, rapists, child molesters, etc. Just so they would have room for non-violent drug users. Somehow, this doesn't make good sense to me...just saying. In 1995, about 589,000 people were imprisoned for non-violent drug use. About 400,000 of these remain in prison today. Government's move should be to release all of these offenders sentenced for non-violent drug use. Use the regained space to house truly violent criminals.

I think it falls into the basic rights of life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness. So many people are on mind altering toxic drugs to prevent their suicides and psychodramas there has to be a better way. How could a God given natural plant be any worse?

I have no problem with legalization ( I tend to lean Libertarian, but on the conservative end of the spetrum) other than it seems to me it is being done only for the revenue the states stand to gain. Especially our very own FUAC. less than a year ago it was, according to him, "a gateway drug". Now he sees the taxes generated in other states (Colorado in 2017...roughly $250,000,000) and he wants to change his tune so he can reap the benefits!

As long as you're not harming anyone else what you decide to put into your body is no one's business but your own. Same could be said about any product you own (including firearms).

For the record, I've never done illegal drugs of any sort (though I've experienced many a contact high). Heck, if it's legalized at the federal level I may even grow some on the property to earn a little extra cash.

I'd be concerned about state only level legalization. I'm sure there will be stipulations about what you can do with it and I'm sure there will be a rider that says if you use it and own guns you'll lose your guns.

I'm torn... I don't see the point of tobacco and "pot".. and even alcohol to an extent.. but the Libertarian in me doesn't care what other people do, AS LONG AS IT DOESN'T AFFECT ME. You can't legislate everything.

That's a good point.. the government doesn't mind as long as they get their cut... (gambling, drugs, etc)

I believe most drugs should be legal.
Alcohol is a million times worse then pot. Its impairs you alot more there is no comparison.
I also dont agree with prescriptions to buy medicine.

I don't smoke, although I used to when I was younger and more rebellious. Still though I turned out ok but could have had my life fucked up for being a kid and going against the grain in a harmless way. Think that's kinda shitty TBH. Let the people decide what to do with their bodies and minds.

Here's my take, the war on drugs has been an absolute failure. Billions of dollars wasted and drug use is still horrifying common. Heroin, meth, and others like them are a legitimate problem, however weed is not, it is a completely valid argument to say alchohol and prescription pain meds are more dangerous than weed. IMO it should be removed by schedule 1 on the national level and taxed and regulated on a state level just like alchohol and tobacco. The fact that it remains in schedule 1 is ridiculous considering there are proven medical uses for it.

Alchohol and tobacco will kill you faster than marijuana.

So punish everyone for the action of a few irresponsible? No one has the right to tell anyone else how to live thier lives if they are not harming, stealing, or forcing someone to do something they don't want to.
What about alcohol? That impairs you 1000 times more then pot. Police can tell if your on drugs while driving ,there are ways.
The stoner is going half the speed limit looking for tacos. Not as bad as you think.
Drinking and driving is by far the worst . it impairs you more then most drugs. Road rage is probably more a problem on the highway then pot.
Everyone entitled to thier opinion . just want you to see this in a different light.

I can't remember the name of the film but there was a great documentary about this talking about how they banned hemp because of the textile and oil industries and by association banned weed.

Darth not a bad argument but as far as I know out side of a piss or blood test there is no way of testing for impairment with pot. saying that we already have drunk drivers it's ok to have stoned drivers seems a bit strange to me. we already have murders so lets have more murders. that seems to go on and on. I think that every one on this forum supports gun rights but i doubt that there are many that would support every one having a nuke. me thinks this needs a whole lot more consideration before we move foward
