Found one this year, no blight yet. Took a pic of some of the burs, there was still a few nuts around on the ground.A few years ago I found a 12 inch diameter American chestnut tree on my property.it was the largest of three known wild American chestnuts(burr producing) growing in nys. Now its the only one, according to the American chestnut association.but it now has the blight and wont last much longer.sad really
You should contact the American chestnut associations NY chapter.they have tons of info.its good to be on their mailing list.might get blight free American chestnuts some day.they are close.that is definitely a rare find you have there.unless its Chinese chestnut.how far up is the split in the trunk?Found one this year, no blight yet.
