I feel bad for these folks... There are a few Taiwanese folks I know that would give the shirt off their back on a cold, rainy day. They also make great electronics and hand tools.

what's that on the guys shirt ? "we are Kawaii" i google that and come up with Japanese stuff

China cannot invade Taiwan militarily in an attrition type of scenario.
The Taiwanese have hundreds of miles of infrastructure, interconnected underground bunkers and tunnels that can launch interceptors,
missiles and are stocked up to the roof for naval , infantry and civil defense coordinated strategies.

And yes taiwanese are great people. My Sil is from taiwan as she is like all the others you mention a kind hard working productive person
and now a US citizen who came to be next to the love of her life, my Bil.

My Bil speaks fluent Chinese and Taiwanese and he knows more about the area, history and geo-politics than probably anybody else in the US alive today.

The chinese like to put a pony show for Brandon to see what the goon gives up as he is challenged by the communists.

Assume the Chinese know all this. I'm certain they have war gamed this out. How do you think they would do it? EMP over the island followed by shock and awe bombardment and insertion of troops in key areas?

Oh they know it, why do you think they have not done it yet? ...and few other things they do not know for sure.

While it seems Chinese might have a first strike advantage they will be vulnerable to counter attack accordingly to a major aggression
that is something well planned and they will take huge and unbearable losses.
The Taiwanese have been preparing for this for 70 years.

I can see long term blockade and infiltration followed by creating instability could make them more vulnerable in the long term.
But in the face of long term blockade nobody could take it for too long, supply chain will suffer and international forces will not seat idle for too long.
Japan said they will not stand iddle. They see the need to be participant in the regions security against totalitarian aggression.

but what do I know?

Very different situation. Even both countries were ill prepared for the conflict they could invade and engage by driving on a few roads.
Not the same in Taiwan the stormy straight provides a great natural barrier on top of everything else the Taiwanese have been building and preparing for, for the last 70 years.

History of Taiwan (1945–present)​



As a result of the surrender and occupation of Japan at the end of World War II, the island of Taiwan was placed under the governance of the Republic of China (ROC),[note 1] ruled by the Kuomintang (KMT), on 25 October 1945. Following the February 28 massacre in 1947, martial law was declared in 1949 by the Governor of Taiwan Province, Chen Cheng, and the ROC Ministry of National Defense. Following the end of the Chinese Civil War in 1949, the ROC government retreated from the mainland as the Communists proclaimed the establishment of the People's Republic of China. The KMT retreated to Taiwan and declared Taipei the temporary capital of the ROC. For many years, the ROC and PRC each continued to claim in the diplomatic arena to be the sole legitimate government of "China". In 1971, the United Nations expelled the ROC and replaced it with the PRC.
In 1987, martial law was lifted and Taiwan began a democratisation process, beginning with the abolition of the Temporary Provisions and culminating with the first direct president election in 1996. By 2000, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) came to power and began to pursue Taiwanese independence and identity but efforts to do so are blocked by the PRC.
Due to Taiwan's ambiguous political status, the ROC has participated in a number of international organizations under the name "Chinese Taipei". Due to the One-China policy imposed by the PRC government, the PRC holds that the ROC ceased to exist and that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China; the PRC refuses diplomatic relations with any country that recognizes the ROC. However, the ROC still controls Taiwan, Penghu, Quemoy, Lienchiang, and other minor islands.

Free is relative due to their ambiguous status.
But yes one could say they are they own nation recognized as the Chinese Taipei.
I want to think they should be able to be free from the shackles of communism and tyranny of the main land.

I wish them and all that want freedom to be free.

I fear the Chinese government sees things much differently.

I do not think this is a war (Possible) that Americans should die over.

I will continue to educate myself on this more. Thank you
